My POV (Arrival)
Chief Fire Officer Boyce was at Cardiff Airport waiting for the special guest from America in the arrivals hall when he saw a Uniform with a Tiger on the shirt. He looked around and he noticed it was the special visitor that he was expecting to come and observe the work of the Pontypandy Fire Service. "Ah, you might be the visitor I was expecting. Am I correct?" Chief Fire Officer Boyce asked.
"Yes, I am. I came here to observe the Fire Service, right?" I replied
"You can say that, yes."
"Oh, well. I think I came to the right place. By the way, I'm Isaac MacDonald, special observer for the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association)."
"A pleasure to meet you, Mr. MacDonald. I'm Chief Fire Officer Horatio Boyce, Head of Newtown and Pontypandy Fire Services. Erm, you seem to have a Tiger on your shirt."
"Oh, it's just from the school I went to in my country."
"Well, in that case, shall we head to Pontypandy?"
"We shall. I think my first stop is the Ocean Rescue Centre."
"Oh, indeed it is. Station Officer Steele will brief the firefighters on your presence, later."
"Sounds like a good idea."
Chief Fire Officer Boyce and I headed out from Cardiff to Pontypandy in his station vehicle from Newtown. It was just like a regular car that the Station Officer would use while on the road to an emergency call. I set my bags down in the back of the car and we were soon on the road to Pontypandy's Ocean Rescue Center.
Author's POV (Station briefing)
Sam was at the Station when he realized he forgot to tell the firefighters about the special visitor arriving. So, he decided to walk up to the kitchen to find them all at the table with Kayleigh, they were having fun playing a game of UNO. Elvis, Ellie, and Arnold were down to 5 cards, Kayleigh was down to 2 cards and Penny was tied with her at 2 cards. "Ok, Jones. Your turn." Elvis called as he held the cards carefully.
"Oh, Ok then. I can tell what you're doing, you want me to draw two more cards?" she replied
"Well, not exactly. I don't know."
"Ok, then. UNO!!"
"You just foiled my plan again. I was hoping I would win, but oh well."
Sam was impressed with Kayleigh when he saw the card game they were playing. She was already having a good time with the others. So, Sam decided to see if he can help. "Anything I can do, Jones?" he asked.
"Sure, Dad. Can you help me with the last card?"
"Ok, I can be happy to help. Oh, and Station Officer Steele wanted me to tell you that Chief Fire Officer Boyce is inviting Someone from America to observe the Fire Service here. So, I need to make sure that the station is clean, and all the vehicles are washed with everything in good condition."
"Roger that, Sam." the firefighters replied altogether.
"Jones, when our visitor is here, can you help Tom with Wallaby 2 before the celebration? He needs to make sure that the bucket is working for any fires we get called out to."
"Ok, Dad."
"Great, I'll let him know you're coming. Oh, and I think you can set that card down."
"Thanks, Dad, and it looks like I win, Elvis."
"Oh, you got me again. I think I'll get you at the next game." Elvis added.
"You're on." replied Kayleigh.
Elvis and Kayleigh went their own ways and Sam went to find Station Officer Steele in his office testing the new update on the map screen 700.
My POV
Out at the Ocean Rescue Center,
I was observing the work that Ben was doing while we were out on a call on Neptune. Ben managed to pull Charlie aboard and tow his boat back to Pontypandy. "Charlie, what happened there?" Ben asked.
"Sorry, Ben. I must've saw something for a moment, then I crashed my boat into the rock right here."
Ben and I walked up to the front of Neptune and I saw the damage to the boat. It was pretty bad than it would've been expected. I looked at the damage and looked back at Ben. "I think we need to know if we can be able to have that fixed before the celebration tonight, Ok, Ben?"
"Sure, I'll ask Mike to come over and have it done."
"Great, why don't we head back to Pontypandy?"
"Sounds like a good idea, I'll put the kettle on for some hot chocolate."
"Ok, I think that's an excellent idea. it is cold out here."
Soon, we headed back to the quay with Charlie on Neptune and the boat attached to a tow cable. Mike was waiting for the boat to arrive as Charlie had called him to have it fixed as if Ben was right on cue. Ben went to get some hot cocoa for me and Charlie. Chief Fire Officer Boyce was waiting for both me and Ben to return after the call. He was impressed with the response Ben had when the call came through. "I was just observing the work and we had an emergency call. I asked him if I could join him as I am on observation duties and he agreed. So, I am happy to say that the Pontypandy coast guard has been successful in the rescue." I said as I showed him the papers.
"Excellent work, the next thing that needs to be observed is the Mountain Rescue Center."
"Right, I'll need to check the Helicopter too as I also need to make sure that the Civil Aviation Authority has it on file."
"Oh, I'll let him know when we arrive. He might be surprised."
"Don't worry, I hope it isn't too long. I heard that the new year celebration is today in Pontypandy."
"Yes, the Pontypandy Fire Service will need to be on high alert for any fires caused by those."
Soon, Ben came back with some hot chocolate for me in a travel cup from the Pontypandy Fire Service. We soon headed off to the Mountain Rescue Center to observe the duties of a Mountain Rescue Pilot. Chief Fire Officer Boyce had been in close contact with the NFPA and I have been selected to observe their work. It was soon reaching 5 p.m. and we were almost done with the observations.
Author's POV
Kayleigh was soon reaching the Mountain Rescue Center when she saw Tom walk out the door. He was surprised to see her at this time of day. "G'day, Jones. Ready to do some checks on Wallaby 2?"
"Yes, I am, Tom. I heard you have a visitor coming here. Is that right?"
"Yeah, which is why I need help with the cleaning and repairs to Wallaby 2. I can't do this on my own, you know."
"I see. Do you want me to check the bucket?"
"Sure, I'll come and join you. It needs to have some specialist work for this one."
Soon, Kayleigh and Tom went to work on Wallaby 2. It was going to be a long day before the celebration of the new year. They didn't know that the visitor was on his way to the Mountain Rescue Center right now.
