Sunday, September 27

It had been two days since Magdalene and Jezebel tried and subsequently failed to kill Circe. Was there even a fight? I guess they are new. They should at least have a chance to learn how to teleport and stuff before going into magic combat.

I wonder if they were somehow able to erase the mind control on the other witches. That seems like something Circe would know. Of course, I can't ask her right now because she's asleep on my bed. She dared me that she could spend all of Saturday and Sunday asleep. I've already caught her five times reading, playing Mario Kart 7 for the Nintendo 3DS, you know. Doing things people normally do when they're awake. Sure, she could also be sleepwalking, but I'd expect a sleepwalking person to look a bit more listless. Besides, I've never seen someone perform jumps like that on Rainbow Road while they were asleep.

Anyway, the moment she saw me, she'd jump into bed and let everyone pass her up, leaving me to finish the race, save the game, and turn off the system. I feel like the only thing I've learned this weekend is that I'm terrible at racing games.

Circe was snoring very loudly and--dare I say--emphatically, like she was pretending to sleep and not actually sleeping. "Circe, I know you're awake," I told her. "You already lost the dare."

Circe scowled at me. "Watch!" She slammed her head on the pillow and snored even louder.

I leaned in next to her and whispered, "I thought you knew to be quiet. My parents still don't know you're here. What are you still doing here, anyway?"

"Your bed is comfy," she mumbled.

I was getting real tired of her shit. I didn't want to share a bed with her again, but I had to last night because of this. It took every ounce of self-restraint in my body not to shove her onto the floor. Nevertheless, I had to get some information out of her. I stood back up. "While you're 'sleeping,'" I began, "do you mind if I ask you a question?"

Circe closed her eyes and nodded.

"You remember Friday night when George cast that light spell?"

"I only remember that you called George your niece by accident."

"Oops." I hadn't realized it, but I was sure it wouldn't come back to bite us in the future. "Well, he summoned that light portal."

"That was a light spell?"

I began to raise my voice. "He was glowing white. He summoned a white portal. I dare you to name a color lighter than white."

"Ultra-white."

"Everything's a competition with you, isn't it?"

Circe sighed. "I'm just trying to inject a little fun into the conversation."

"And I'm trying to stay on track. Could you help me out here?"

"Alright. The boy cast a light spell. So?"

"So he's a dark spirit. How was he able to cast light spells?"

"I mean, hypothetically, this shouldn't be possible. Dark spirits can't use light magic. Dark is inherently the absence of light."

I leaned in closer. "And what about in practice?"

"George used light magic, so it's totally possible. I mean, you..."

"What about me?"

Circe rolled onto her other side. "Forget I said anything."

I huffed. Why did Circe have to be such a pain all the time? "It still doesn't make sense!"
