Hi! So here goes my first story. I hope you will like it. Please try to ignore any grammatical errors (as I am not good (actually pathetic) at English) and fell free to criticize. I will really appreciate it.

 *Elisa’s POV*:

““Hey sweetie, wake up!” My mother cooed while shaking my shoulder.  “No ma not yet; it’s too early to wake up.” I replied,  pulling the blanket over my head. My mother lightly chuckled and stood up. “Okay then, I’m going to leave now. I just wanted to say take care of yourself because I might not be coming back for a while.  Just remember that I love you and I’ll always be there for you. With that I heard my door closing. I sat up and ran after my mom, yelling at her to wait, to at least offer some explanation.

But everything suddenly went black and I felt someone pinch me, waking me up. I saw my mom looking at me with concern but I smiled at her in return, a weak attempt to reassure her that I was fine.

“What happened?” My mom asked, reaching over and gently taking my hand in her own

“Nothing, just a bad dream, I guess.” I replied.

“Come sit here and tell me what you saw!” she said playfully.

I sat up and did so. Although I wasn’t sure if I wanted to disclose that disturbing dream to her, I recounted it to her, having been persuaded by her expression. There was pain and worry plainly etched on her face as I finished.

“Mom, please don’t leave me.” I said to her, trying to prevent the tears that had collected in my eyes from falling.

“I am not leaving you darling. I will always be there for you.” She replied with a smile on her face. I gladly soaked in this change of expression.

“How can you? The doctors told me that you only have few days left to ….” My mother held up a hand, silencing me. Her optimism baffled me. How could she continue smiling and living so... normally, when her life could end any minute?

“Look at me”, my mother said while lifting my chin. “Everyone has to die one day or the other. But life still goes on. Promise me Elisa that after my death you will not waste your time crying like a child. Promise me that you will not give up and will live your life in the same way as you do now.”

She looked at me with hope in her eyes.  She was asking for so much but how could I refuse her? “Um….. I….I...I promise but you have to answer my question in return.”

“Anything.” She replied with tears of joy rolling down her cheeks.

“Where is my father?”

The happiness that was on her face a few seconds before was replaced by a depressed look. She stared at me but after few minutes she took a deep breath and started talking.

“I knew that one day you would ask me this but I’ve tried to avoid this question all those years. Your father was an amazing person, but he wasn’t able to handle the responsibility of my pregnancy. We never married, but we dated for five months, and they were the highlight of my life before you were born. We broke up after he found out I was pregnant, I didn’t try to convince him. I didn’t want him staying out of guilt and pressure if he didn’t want to be there. And God blessed me with you after a while. From the first moment I laid eyes on you, I loved you so much. You remind me of him too. You have his eyes. But I have to ask you to not hate him. Whatever he is and was, he will always be your father and-‘

She never got to finish that sentence. As if someone was squeezing her throat, she started heaving and taking deep breaths.

Jumping up, I pressed the emergency button, and fell into a kind of trance, only subconsciously aware of the activity around me. Doctors and nurses filled the room, but deep inside I knew it was of no use.

I had lost her.

I had lost her forever.
