The guy got out of the car and started walking towards us. When I'd met him before, all I could concentrate on was the fact that he was a major jerk. Checking him out when he walked towards us, however, I had to admit that he was really good looking. I know this might seem a little perverted but what else can you do when you have hot boys surrounding you.

That boy looked almost the same age as us with blond, messed up hair. He was wearing a bright red shirt with khaki pants and black Ray-Bans. I hadnt seen his face yet as he was engrossed in his texting spree. Tom greeted him when he reached us and they struck up a conversation which made me feel like a complete third wheel.

I stood there awkwardly while the two friends or whatever they were chatted away. I was looking down at my feet when I heard Tom saying my name, I looked up and found myself looking into a pair of deep blue eyes. I could bet that they were much brighter than the sky above me and were deeper than anything I had ever seen. I was mesmerized by the intensity at which they looked or rather stared back at me. I was drawn away from these thoughts when a slight pain rose in my arm. I turned to look for the source of the pain when I realized that Tom was looking at me with a questioning look on his face.

I felt blood swiftly rising to my cheeks as I realized that I had zoned out and I again cursed myself for blushing so easily. The silence was becoming awkward by the every passing moment and I continuously prayed for someone to break it. As no one spoke I mustered up the courage to speak but Tom spoke up at the same moment.

“Are you ok Elisa?” Tom asked.

“Yeah, why?” I replied hesitantly.

“I was calling you but you didn’t reply.”

“Um… I'm sorrry, I wasn’t listening.  What did you want to tell me?” I tried to act casual.

“This is my brother Max, Max this is my friend Elisa from high school.” Tom said while waving his hand frantically between Max and me.

I pulled out my hand to shake Max’s and said hi to him. I saw a smirk on his face and suddenly he started laughing. I was confused for a while but then got lost in admiring his laugh. His deep and warming laugh sent shivers down my spine and caused butterflies to erupt in my stomach. I closed my eyes to remove these thoughts, acting as if closing my eyes would close my ears as well.

“Why the hell are you laughing?” Tom’s question made me open my eyes, only to find Max was now staring at me.

“Nothing Tom, I’ll tell it to you later, gotta go now.” Max replied and with that he quickly walked past me causing our shoulders to brush and butterflies to flutter in my stomach. After this I said goodbye to Tom and left. While driving back home my thoughts were occupied by Max and it really surprised me. I'd never thought about a boy as more than a potential friend. I really needed to divert my attention from him. Working at the house of someone I'm attracted to would only distract me.

With that thought, I started telling myself to just forget about the rude (but attractive) idiot.

Then why did it feel as if it was of no use?
