To say that the house was magnificent was a huge understatement.  The moment I stepped inside, I thought that I had entered a palace but the presence of an elderly man in a designer suit instead of a crown and a long cape in front of me clearly showed that I was wrong. I was still admiring the house when I heard Mr. Carter calling my name. Blood rose to my cheeks when I realized that I had zoned out. I cursed myself for blushing so easily and this was another thing that I had inherited from my mom. Ouch! There goes the feeling of being stabbed again but I quickly composed myself and entered the room behind Mr. Carter.

After discussing some details about the upcoming functions, I got to know that these functions were being held because his younger son was getting married and he really wanted to please his son by doing everything he had asked. I really envied his son after getting to know that his father cared about him so much and while I was thinking about this I really wished that I had a father who could look after me in the same way. While I was about to enter the zoning phase again the door burst open and in entered a handsome young looking boy. My heart skipped a beat and I couldn’t help myself from checking him out. Suddenly I realized what I was doing so I quickly turned my gaze towards my laptop and prayed that no one had noticed my cheeks which were turning bright red at the moment.

“Hello dad! You called me? Is it….” The boy said but suddenly stopped as he had noticed something.

Deep inside I prayed that he wasn’t looking at me but when nobody said anything I raised my head in the boys direction and oh crap he was not only looking but staring at me. I didn’t know what to do so I quickly stood up and introduced myself.

“Um… Hi! My name is Elisa and I am an event manager.” I said everything in one breath and hoped that he had understood what I had said.

I can bet that I saw a smirk appearing on his face but it was quickly replaced by a welcoming smile.

“Hello Elisa. My name is Tom… Tom Carter.” He replied

I nodded and quickly glanced at Mr. Carter, wishing that he would say something as the situation was getting really awkward. He immediately met my gaze and smiled while standing up to meet his son.

“Hi! Tom. I am happy that you have made your dramatic entrance on time because we really need to know about everything you want to do for your wedding and Miss Elisa is here to help us plan it. So if you can spare some precious time of yours for us, we would like you to come sit with us and tell us what you would like to have for your wedding.”

“Sure sir.” Tom replied with a grin on his face.

After four hours of discussion about the events of Tom’s wedding I was ready to leave. I hurriedly said goodbye to Mr. Carter and Tom and made my way outside the house. I was about to move towards my car, which I saw was parked where I bumped in that young man, when a strong hand grabbed my wrist.

I just froze where I was standing while thinking hard about the person who could be holding my hand. When I didn’t turn around after a few long minutes, the person holding me patted my shoulder. I slowly turned around, taking all my time, and to my shock I came face to face with none other than Mr. Tom.

He stared at me but I suddenly looked towards my wrist which was still held by him. Realizing this, he quickly let go of hand and mumbled a sorry.

“It…it’s ok” I replied

I was about to leave as he wasn’t saying anything but he suddenly spoke up.

“Oh my God! Sure Elisa you don’t remember me?”

This caught me off guard and I swiftly turned around to see whether he was joking or not but all I saw was a questioning look that he was giving me. I tried hard to remember anything related to him but I wasn’t successful.

“No I don’t.” I said while folding my arms on my chest.

“Don’t lie.” He replied while rolling his eyes.

This really made me furious and I snapped at him, “Why would I lie to you?”

“Ssh! Calm down missy. I, Tom Carter, was your classmate in the senior year of your high school. And…you once even helped me pass my math’s exam by solving half of my exam paper for a treat at    Mc Donald’s in return. I am sure you will remember now.” He said with enthusiasm in his voice.

I raked my brain for while and finally hit the jackpot. As I slowly remembered everything, I couldn’t help smiling at Tom and I suddenly screamed in joy and hugged him tightly.

“Oh! I am so sorry Tom that I wasn’t able to recognize you.” I said while pulling away from him.

“I am happy that you have remembered it when I reminded you. I thought you would never recognize me as you didn’t have a good memory while back at high school.” He replied mockingly.

I just narrowed my eyes and stuck out my tongue at him. He laughed playfully and smacked me on my arm. “Stop being a kid, El.” He said.

“I will when you will stop teasing me like a kid.” I replied

He just rolled his eyes playfully and looked at me for a while before speaking again.

“You know you are the same old Elisa I knew. I am happy that you didn’t change.”

You don’t know anything Tom, I said to myself. “But you have changed a lot. Just look at yourself.” I replied while forcing a smile.

He raised his eyebrows and gave me a “what do you mean” look.  He was about to say something when we heard a screeching sound behind us. We turned around and I recognized that it was the car of that young rude man I met earlier. I frowned at him while I saw a smile appearing on Tom’s face.

Let’s see where this will take us, I said to myself as we waited for that man while he walked towards us.
