"Yeah okay, thanks Niall." Louis muttered on the phone with his best friend.

Niall was a detective on Harrys case. It was hard for him to do as Harry was also one of his best friends but it was his job to.

When Harry went missing, Niall had been like Louis' support system along with Liam and Zayn. It was mostly Niall though as he'd have more information to give Louis about the case.

Louis didn't know how to thank his best mate enough and he always reminded the brunette lad but each time Niall just shook it off as if it was nothing.

Even though Niall played it off as nothing it was most certainly something. He always told Louis that it was fine and he didn't have to do anything, which was true, but only because the one thing that could repay him was finding Harry. That was his job though.

"Alright mate, talk to you later." Niall said sternly. He was always a fun lad to be around, would always joke around with his mates and all. He was the life of the party! Well... was being the key word.

It was until three years prior did his life fall into shambles. The day Harry went missing, Niall turned into something he truly wasn't.

The day his best friend went missing Niall wasn't Niall. No, he turned into someone serious. No jokes disputing out of his mouth whatsoever. No goofy smiles that would turn anyone's world into something so much brighter. No.. well.. Niall.

The only time he would joke around was when he had a drink in him, well a few drinks. He said it would "make him forget everything that's been happening."

It would for a second.. until he saw the empty chair next to Louis. He'd chug down his drink and slam it onto the table, calling the bartender for another one. It was a reoccurring cycle.

People told him to stop but it was no use. Nothing could stop him from trying to get the pain to go away.

So now his life for three whole years has been work, drink, sleep, and then the cycle would start all over the next day.

Now he was sitting in his office chair looking at Harrys file. He was scanning everything twice, trying to see if he missed something.

He knew he didn't miss anything. He knew this case like the back of his hand, but it didn't hurt to try.

Niall slammed his fist against the table and put his hands over his eyes, resting his elbows on the desk.

He told Louis he'd find Harry. He promised Louis he'd find his fiancé. Sometimes though promises are hard to keep and this was one of them. Niall wouldn't stop though, even if the case turned cold he wouldn't stop fighting.

He took a deep breath and kept his eyes closed for god knows how long. He relaxed for a split second. It wasn't even a second, more like a millisecond. The shortest amount of time spent but in that time so many different things happened.

So many remarkable things happened. Like childbirth, or a birthday. It happened to other people of course but another remarkable thing happened to Niall.

He opened his eyes and frantically looked at the files once again. He remembered something Louis told him about a year ago. Something about finding Harry at a park or whatnot.

He let it go as his mind playing tricks on him and started zoning Louis out. Niall didn't zone him out enough though because he remembered Louis saying there was a witness with him.

For some reason though, the police force never wrote that down. He got a piece of scrap paper from a drawer full of junk and started writing.

'Louis Tomlinson and Maria Simms spot Harry Styles at playground on 3rd avenue. Maria was then hit by something, leaving her with a concussion. Someone then took Harry again before Louis got there.'
