Chapter 5
It was a Monday and Bradley had slept through the first lessons completely. After a scolding from his math teacher, he was on his way to the cafeteria but stopped as he saw the new girl surrounded by Andrew and his clique.
He walked slowly closer to them trying to hear what they were talking about. "Come on, cutie. You really don't want to go on a date with me?" Andrew asked with a cocky grin stepping closer to Amelia. "I'm good" She said, her dark blue eyes staring emotionless at the tall blonde guy in front of her. "Look, I'm the most popular guy here, I don't see a reason why we shouldn't date" He said, leaning closer to the girl that was clearly uninterested in anything the boy was saying. "I said, I'm good" She repeated this time quite fiercely as she sharpened her blue eyes at the cocky guy. "Oh come on, eventually you will give in any way, I could make you feel really good, ya know and-"
"Hey, Andrew"
Everyone's head snapped at the guy who just interrupted Andrew. "How are you?" Bradley asked a small smile on his lips as he stepped closer to the group of students. Andrew mustered him for a moment, seeming slightly confused by Bradley's sudden appearance but gave him then a fist bump. "Oh, I'm good thanks" He said and Bradley chuckled as he stepped in front of Andrew, inconspicuously shielding Amelia.
"Can you imagine I just heard Packman talking shit about you again?" Bradley said shaking his head in disbelief as if he was scandalized by that made up story. Andrew's cocky smirk faltered as he scoffed. "That boy can't shut up, huh? I think we have to visit him real quick" He said turning his head towards his guy friends who immediately agreed with him.
"Thanks for telling me, bro" He said, giving Bradley a quick pat on the shoulder before turning around and walking away with his friends following him like lost puppies.
Bradley turned around with a smile. "Quite a cocky bastard, hmm?" He said looking back in the direction in which Andrew left. As he looked back he could see the serious face of the new girl faltering for a moment and a small smile appearing on her lips. Bradley bit back a smile, up close she looked even more like a doll.
"I'm Bradley by the way, your drama partner" He said, stretching out his hand. Amelia mustered his hand for a moment before shaking it timidly. "I'm Amelia" She said, her always serious face suddenly seeming kind. "Thanks" She said biting her lip as she grabbed a few books from her lockers. She seemed to struggle a moment, trying to grab all the books from her locker, so Bradley grabbed a few of her books carefully.
"Thanks" She said awkwardly smoothing her wavy hair. They walked towards the cafeteria in silence. As they reached the cafeteria Bradley gave the girl next to him a small smile and placed the books carefully in her arms.
"See you then, Amelia" He said and the girl gave him a small nod. On the way to his friend's table, he was already receiving weird faces of Jamy.
He sat down and chuckled as he saw that James' mouth was wide open and his eyes were the size of an apple. "Y-You? New girl? You gotta tell me man" He said crying out as he started shaking Bradley's arm like crazy.
Hannah just smiled and gave him an encouraging nod. Bradley sighed ruffling his thick dark brown locks. "There is nothing to tell, Andrew was annoying, so I helped her out" He stated nonchalantly. "Woah, okay, but did she like talked to you?" Bradley nodded and Hannah grinned widely. "She is actually really nice, right? I sat next to her in Math and she explained everything to me without being annoyed at my stupid self" She exclaimed happily. "Yeah, I guess" Bradley nodded, grabbing one of Jamy's sandwiches and taking a big bite of it.
James looked at them kind of disappointed. "So you all talked to her? That's great it seems that everyone is more popular than me but that's okay" He said, a defeated look on his face. "Oh come on, it's not that big of a deal" Bradley said, ruffling his friend's hair with a chuckle.
Bradley looked down as his phone vibrated in his pocket. The smile on his face faltered as he saw it was from his mother. He bit the inside of his cheek as he clicked on the message.
Hey Sweetie. Me and your father are going on a business trip. We will be back in two weeks.
Take care,
Your mom
Bradley just scoffed and pushed his phone back in his pocket. It's not like they were home at all. "You good?" James asked, placing a hand on his back. "Just my parents" He said with a sigh and James gave him a sympathetic smile.
After school was over he drove back home. He plopped down on his bed just laying there for a while. It seemed like any kind of motivation was gone. A few months ago he was at least motivated to party. But even that, wasn't something he looked forward to anymore. It seemed like even alcohol couldn't lift his mood anymore.
Time passed by quickly, and before he knew it, he was sitting at his lunch table and it was friday. "Oh, I'm kind of motivated today." James said, as he unpacked his lunch box and placed one sandwich on his plate and the other sandwich on Bradley's plate, who thanked him quickly, before starting to munch on it.
"You know, I just have music now and then we all are free and we could go swimming you know?" He said eating his sandwich with a satisfied grin on his face. Hannah laughed and hit his shoulder playfully. "It's february you dummy. Who wants to go swimming in winter?" She said with a giggle. "I don't know, me??" He said in a bruh tone. Bradley chuckled as he watched the two pickering. "Anyway, what do you guys have now?" Jamy asked, changing the subject with a huff.
"PE" Hannah said with an annoyed sigh. "Drama class" Bradley said, and Hannah immediately looked up with interest. "You also doing that project thing? Who is your partner?" She asked excitedly leaning forward. Bradley gave her a quick nod. "I got Amelia" He said and Hannah's eyes lit up. "Oh wow, that's cool. I got Sarah as a partner. She is literally so arrogant, it's crazy." She said with a pout on her face. "That sucks" Bradley said, giving her a reassuring pat on the back.
Soon the bell rang and Bradley walked towards the classroom. A small smile appeared on his lips as he saw Amelia sitting on her desk, reading some book. He walked closer to her and placed his back on the table next to her. "The wonders of physics" He read out loud and chuckled. "Sounds interesting"
Amelia lifted her head up and gave the boy then a small smile. Bradley sat down next to her as their crazy drama teacher was already starting to clap loudly. "Guys, guys!" She shouted and the classroom went silent. "Today you are just going to gather ideas about how your role play is supposed to go, okay?" She asked with a big smile and the students nodded.
Bradley grabbed the two knitted notes from the last lesson and placed them on the table. "I got 80s and teenagers" He said with a chuckle. Amelia quickly searched in her back and then she pulled out two notes.
"I...uhm, I" She started but couldn't really finish her sentence. Bradley let out a breathy laugh. "That bad?" He asked, grabbing the two notes. His eyes widened.
