I hummed thoughtfully as I made my way into Potions, alone- Hazel had dropped the subject first chance she got, lucky sod.

I still felt horrible after last nights occurrences and was not in the mood to deal with the overflowing positivity of Slughorn.

Sure enough, he was his usual smiley self as I greeted him before taking a random seat, resting my head against my palm, waiting for everyone else to arrive. I knew there was no point in unpacking my things as every year Slughorn separates us into pairs- Potions Partners, which can make or break your grades.

I was simply hoping that I wouldn't get Malfoy.

The sound of a usual ruckus I had long since gotten used to travelled into the classroom as the marauders arrived, minus peter, poor boy didn't even make it to O.W.L level potions never mind N.E.W.T. Sirius and James took the seats behind me (Which surprised me, I had thought James would have tried his luck sitting next to Evans) and with a hesitant smile from Remus, I rolled my eyes and gestured him to sit down, a smile tugging at the corner of my lips which I hid using my hair. Stupid Lupin.

"Morning, Thorne," He smiled gently leaning round so my hair didn't obscure his view and I looked up to meet his eyes with a polite nod, suddenly becoming distracted by the blonde that had his glare set on us from the moment he entered the classroom.

"Pompous greasy daddy issues infested foul loathsome evil little twat," I grumbled under my breath before covering my mouth in shock of my own words, a loud snort coming from Remus, and I musnt have been as quiet as id thought as Malfoy sat in shock as the two males behind me howled in laughter.

Good one idiot.

My cheeks coloured a deep red as I turned to the front, clearing my throat and listening to Slughorn as he began the lesson.

"Welcome back my esteemed pupils to another year, there are many exciting potions this year and I'm sure you're all very excited,"

'Completely ecstatic,' i mused in my thoughts.

"First things first, Potions Partners for the year!"

"Black and Lupin," Oh thank Salazar.

"Malfoy and Avery," Once again, Thank Salazar.

"Potter and Longbottom,"

"Evans and Thorne," hmmm, I can work with this.

James looked like a kicked puppy and rather concerned for his long term crush, I don't blame him, the love of his life was about to be stuck with a snake for the entire year, a pure blood one at that.

I unpacked my things, saying a quiet goodbye to Lupin as he took James' seat, nodding politely to Evans as she hesitantly made her way over and took the seat next to me. When your only friends are your dormmates it doesn't do well for the whole socially awkward thing.

"I'll go gather the ingredients," She spoke quietly, I hadn't even noticed we'd started! I nodded, focusing on the book she'd opened to the correct page.

Veritaserum? Makes sense, it is the day of the new lunar cycle.

Ingredients:

Standard Potioning Water

Ptolemy (1 vial)

Powdered Moonstone

Adder's Fork (1, sliced)

Jobberknoll Feathers (12, whole)

Sopophorous Bean (3, lightly crushed)

...I should probably help Evans, she wouldn't be able to carry this on her own.

I rose from my seat, ambling over to the ingredient station where- as I expected, Lily was struggling to hold the ingredients. I chuckled slightly, catching her attention, she must have thought I was being rude by the way she blushed darkly in embarrassment.

I took a couple of the items from her so she was no longer in an immense struggle to not drop everything, causing her to furrowed her brows in confusion.

"If you needed help you could have just asked," I remarked jokingly, my lips twitching up to a smile which made her relax slightly, a soft smile gracing her lips.

We returned to our desk and worked effortlessly together, prepping the ingredients and sharing the occasional joke. It felt...nice, connecting with another girl. I found an unlikely companionship in the red-haired female and found myself enjoying her company as much as I did Hazel.

"Well done girls, I hope to see you both at the Slugclub party tomorrow," The older man smiled widely and I met Lily's eye, giving the girl a light smile to which she readily returned.

"We'll see you there, sir," I nodded politely, ignoring the calls from James behind us, turning and glaring at him after Slughorn went to another pair.

The bell rang and I gathered my things, saying a quick goodbye to Evans and exiting the classroom to prepare for Evening patrol with Lupin.

God help me.
