"Listen to this one:" Chuck said, bringing my attention to him.
"After Sarah hung herself, the Bellows family fired Sylvie Baptiste as she and her daughter, Lou Lou, were thought to be responsible for teaching her black magic' If it's in the paper, it has to be true, right?" Chuck asked us.
Stella used the wheels on her chair to approach us.
"Is there a picture of Sarah?" Stella asked.
"No just her name." Chuck said.
I looked at the newspaper and saw a picture of a noose where Sarah Bellows name was. It caused me to grimace.
"But, uh, I did find an ad for brain salt." Chuck said, bringing a small smile to my face. "Cures headaches and constipation. Not sure why it didn't take off."
"Auggie, Auggie would have loved that."
We all looked down at his words. My smile vanished as reality crawled its way into my mind like a fuzzy tarantula.
"My eyes are literally gonna start bleeding." Stella sighed.
"And we still have nothing on Sarah." I stated sinking into my seat.
"What year did she hang herself?" Ramon asked suddenly.
"Uh... 1898." Stella answered moving to sit by him.
"In just one year, all her family members left." Ramon said in disbelief.
"What do you expect? I mean, who wants to stick around with the name that's synonymous with murdering kids?" Chuck explained.
"Not stick around. I mean gone. Like off the face of the earth." Ramon said.
Something clicked in my brain and everything suddenly made sense. Vanish off the face of the earth? Wait...
"What were there names?" I asked, forcing everyone's gaze to me. "Her family."
"Uh, 'the father, Deodat'" Ramon read from the page.
"Wait, I know that name." Stella said walking over to the book.
She turned to a page labeled The Wendigo. I looked over her shoulder as she read from the page.
"'Deodat was a wealthy man who wanted to go hunting.'" Stella looked over to Ramon. "Give me another name."
"Uh... One of their sons, Ephraim." Ramon read from the text again.
Stella muttered the name to herself until she found it written in front of her.
"They didn't just leave the town." Stella paused, making eye contact with all of us. "They each have a story."
"Why?" Ramon asked.
Stella shook her head and started flipping through the pages. When the pages were blank, she abruptly stopped.
"Oh my God. Oh my God, it's happening again. She's writing another story." Stella said.
My breathe got caught in my throat. Oh god, it's not me is it? I can't die! There's so many things i want to do, I have to say... Chuck... oh no. No. NO!
I quickly turned my eyes back to the book as Chuck and Ramon walked up to us. I completely expected it to say 'From the Cold' but it didn't. The page was titled The Red Spot. I watched as the text wrote itself in front of me. I noticed Ramon and Stella start to turn to Chuck and I. i followed their gaze to Chuck's shirt-
Oh shit.
Chuck started to back up.
"Why are you looking at me?" He asked slowly.
