How Far We've Come

Death was numbing, I felt nothing. It felt like I was underwater, But I felt no pressure to breathe.

There was a buzzing, screaming, yet soft well of voices the blanketed me.

I felt like I was falling. I couldn't see.

It was black, like ink.

My thoughts were interrupted as the feeling of being pulled out of water shook me awake.

I fell back to the floor.

My eyes snapped open as I quickly inhaled a breathe.

What happened? I'm dead, I think... but I can't really remember anything other than my grandma.

I stood up, realizing I'm still in the Bellows' house.

Oh jeez, I'm in hell. Or, what did Sarah call it? Inter-- Into-- In Between?

I opened my mouth to speak, but only a raspy whisper came out. I let out a low sigh and turned around, finding a frozen version of me.

I fell backwards, again.

What the?

My mouth was open in a scream, my eyes shut tightly as I reached you for someone. Still, pathetically on the ground.

Ew, I couldn't have at least died in a cooler pose?

I reached out to touch it, when I noticed my hand was blurry, and like half transparent. I looked like how Sarah and Mama did. Still, I went to touch it, only barely feeling anything but a slight cold sting, but that felt just ... fuzzy.

"Chuck? I've been looking for Stella for almost hours, still nothing."

If my soul wasn't already sepreate from my body, it would have been gone after that.

Auggie?

I hear quiet thuds on the staircase as I turned around and saw a ghostish version of my best friend.

We made eye contact.

"Auggie?" I muttered, a raspy, broken whisper as I felt tears sting my dead eyes.

"Vee!" He yelled, tackling me into a hug. "Oh my god, you're okay."

I weeped as he held me. Although everything else was fuzzy. His warmth was clear, and calm.

"You're one to talk. I'm so sorry I didn't help save you-" I cried

"No, don't be. I didn't believe it either." Auggie reassured me, pulling out of the hug. "It's so good to know you can hear me again."

"It's so good to see you again." I replied

"Just wait 'til Chuck sees you, gosh, I can't believe you guys got together after I died. What the hell?!" He laughed a little.

I laughed as well.

"Yeah, crazy isn't-- wait Chuck?"

"Oh yeah, let's go find him. He went to see if he could help Ramon." He explained.

"What are we waiting for?" I shouted, starting to get used to talking again.

"Wait, I want to surprise him, I think he'd love and hate that." Auggie said.

"I found Ramon, it's not like I can help, but I think he'll make it." His voice was in the distance, but growing near.

Auggie smirked before I went into the spot I was hiding before I literally fell on my face and died.
