So 2020, not a good year. Not my worst year, but a solid top 5. And since 2021 is around the corner, I want to just vent things so that I can leave them in the past where they belong. Everything from general bad things that have just carried over from the last few decades, covid, personal stuff and of course politics, which isn't something I talk about much here and probably won't do much more of either. It will probably just be a big rambling mess. Don't worry, there are some positives at the end.
Anyways, negatives of 2020. Where do you even start? The multiple wildfires. Horrible for the environment, terrible for those affected. But is sadly not specific to 2020, it's has just kind of carried over from the last few decades due to climate change. And we will sadly see more wildfires in the future with the way that problem is going.
Speaking of climate change. This year is the one where I've truly started losing hope that we'll be able to fix it. Eventually we will pass some point of no return. The Earth won't suddenly end, but at some point ahead there is a cliff that we can't see and only vaguely knows where is, and it is close. We won't know when we've passed that point, but when we have, there will be no going back for thousands of year, and the planet will have changed.
I used to believe that we could fix that. That naïve belief that if everyone just helped out a little everything would be alright and we would all be alright. Nope. Over 70% of emissions comes from companies, not individuals. And considering the amount of power the wealthy have these days in everything, I doubt they want to change that. And most politicians gets their money from those who earn money from all the pollution, so no hope there. Add inn a general misinformation about the situation in the public, lack of concern, and politicization of the whole deal and those politicians will stay. There are few who has sufficient plans that can do anything about it, but they are few. So unless there is a series of literal revolutions around the world, I can't see the it working. And I hate having to admit that.
Moving on to everyone's favourite topic around the dinner table, politics. So this year there was an election in this somewhat important country you might have heard of. The US I think. A rigged and stolen election. Not the one in November, mind you, I'm talking about the one months before. The democratic primaries. And I mean, they had one simple task. Pick someone who can look decent against one of the most unpopular presidents ever. An authoritarian, narcissist with no regard for the law and mild fascist tendencies who somehow manages to take every wrong decision during a global pandemic. Should really be an easy job for most of the candidates they had.
Of the ones with a chance They could have had a nice socialist jew. No not Jesus, I'm talking about the man from Vermont, Bernie Sanders. He would have won. There was also rule 63 Diet Bernie for those who still live in the red scare, Elizabeth Warren. Then there is mister trying to hard to sound like Obama (not a compliment at all), but he knows Norwegian so he isn't as bad, Pete Butterdeig. (not his last name, but I had to put it in). Anyways, should be easy. Just don't pick "Trump but blue" Bloomberg, "a tad bit too Karen" Klobuchar and "On dementia road" Biden.
Don't worry it's 2020, of course they are going to fuck it up. Leading up to the primaries in south Carolina everything was going Bernie's way. Not that he would win south Carolina, but he had a good chance on super-Tuesday. Then suddenly Biden wins massively over the polls even has his campaign was falling apart and had no money left. Shortly afterwards, Pete and Klobuchar drops out within hours of each other and immediately endorses Biden. (Something they did after Obama allegedly called both of them). Then come super-Tuesday and Biden once again beats his polls in practically every state. Way outside the margins that the UN would consider suspicious. But this is the DNC, legally a corporation that can do whatever the fuck it wants, including dragging the second worst option across the finish line. So basically this.
