Vincent
I sat in another business meeting, not listening to what the other men discussed. When the session ended, I made my way to my office as Emmy met me. I kept a brisk pace as I flipped through the folder. She handed me a pen, and I scribbled my name on the signature line, giving the file back to her.
I entered my office, then sat down at my desk, typing commands into the computer. I checked the recent acquisitions' information. The Murphy building sale is pending, but it was a matter of time before I gained it. I leaned back in my office chair, swiveling around to face the enormous window in my office. Looking out at Cedar City, I owned a majority of the businesses. Some I planned to sell because the business aspect was terrible.
"Vincent," I heard Cruz say.
"What is it?" I asked with abruptness.
"Your appointment is in thirty minutes," Cruz reminded me.
I sat there, looking across the city.
"Did you hear me?" Cruz asked.
"Yes, I heard you. I'm not deaf," I snapped. I detested when people spoke to me like a child. Cruz had a habit of doing such a thing. It irritated me. I hired Cruz as a bodyguard and my right-hand man, not my caretaker. I scoffed at that thought.
I stood up and walked over to the coat rack, picking up my suit coat. I pulled it on and left my office with Cruz following me. I glanced around my office to see who's working and who's wasting time. I found a few employees that I would end employment with when I return. I found these employees not beneficial to my company and lazy. I do not tolerate laziness from anyone.
Cruz and I entered the elevator as Emmy ran to the doors. Cruz stopped the elevator doors from closing.
"Did you need anything, Mr. Powers?" Emmy asked.
"Yes, I want the employee files on the two people in cubicles two and five. Set the files on my desk, and I'll check the information when I return," I informed Emmy.
"Yes, sir," Emmy said, nodding, then leaving to retrieve the personnel files. Emmy was my assistant and excellent in her position. She was reliable, and her work ethic was outstanding. Emmy was a valuable asset to the company. The other two employees weren't.
We rode the elevator down to the parking garage and exited, walking to the car. I got into the backseat as Cruz climbed into the driver's side. Cruz pulled out of a parking spot and drove me to my appointment. I sat in the backseat, staring out the window. Cars, buildings, and people passed us along the way. The car ride was silent with the hum of the engine. I prefer silence to think.
Cruz pulled into a parking lot, arriving at our destination, and I got out of the car. Cruz followed suit as we went into a building and came to a reception area. I walked up to the window and signed my name on a sheet. The employee looked at the clipboard and buzzed me through a door. Cruz followed me to a room and waited outside in the hallway next to the office.
I sat in a chair in front of a desk as a man entered wearing a white lab coat, holding a file. He sat down in his office chair as I sat there.
"Hello, Vincent," the man greeted me.
"Dr. Crenshaw," I replied.
"We have the results from the tests," the doctor said.
I sat there as the doctor went over my test results. He provided my options to me as I attempted to process the information. I tapped my fingertips on the arm of the chair as I rubbed my chin with my index finger. Once the doctor finished, I looked at him, expressionless.
"Vincent? Do you have questions?" The doctor asked.
"No," I answered.
"Are there any concerns?" The doctor questioned.
"How long do I have before deciding?" I questioned.
"The sooner, the better. Time is key," the doctor replied.
I nodded as I stood up. I left the office as Cruz looked at me. I looked at Cruz, then walked down the hallway, leaving the building. Cruz followed me. When I reached the car, I climbed into the back and sat there, staring out the window.
Cruz climbed into the driver's side and closed the door. "Do you want to discuss it?" Cruz asked me.
"Not particularly, no," I answered. "I have a business function to attend and need your presence. I do not trust anyone."
Cruz nodded, starting the car and driving me to the hotel. I made a call to Emmy to plan for the function, which I'm attending. I explained what I would need, and Emmy informed me she would handle all the arrangements. Cruz brought me to the hotel, and I went up to the penthouse suite. The staff approached me, and I waved them off. I wasn't in the mood to deal with anyone. Once I reached my suite, I changed into a sweatsuit and left the hotel, going for a run. I found running helps with my thoughts. Plus, I prefer to keep fit.

After dropping Vincent at the hotel, I left. I've known Vincent for the past five years, and he was a close book. Vincent was unreadable because he guarded himself. I learned during those five years that Vincent dealt with more than anyone knew. I was there when he discovered Victoria and Channing's indiscretion. It was a mess to clean up.
Since that time, Vincent has kept his personal life very guarded. He refused any relationship. Private matters with a woman were confidential. He never discussed family. I didn't know if he had any family besides his sister. Vincent never kept photographs of his family.
I returned to my apartment and made a call.
Hello?
"We returned from Vincent's appointment," I said.
The sound of your voice tells me it didn't go well.
"Remember the card you gave me," I said, holding the business card in my hand.
I remember.
"Is this legit?" I questioned.
Yes, it's legit. Give the card to Vincent and tell him to contact the number on the business card. It bypasses the hassles.
I hung up the phone, looking at the business card with a name and number on it. It better be legit.
Vincent
I got ready, and Cruz arrived on time. Punctuality was crucial for me. I despise tardiness from people, especially in business. We left the penthouse, and Cruz drove me to the business function. I arrived as the hosts greeted me. I attended these functions with the sole purpose of gaining new businesses.
People arrived as the function started. I ordered a bourbon, and the server returned with my drink. I took the tumbler and gulped the contents, then ordered another bourbon. This function is insufferable.
Cruz walked over to me and stood next to me.
"Interesting function," Cruz mentioned.
"It's insufferable and pretentious. Most business owners come to these functions, hoping that I save their company after they ruin it. I refuse to rescue arrogant pricks that show disregard for anyone," I spoke with a low tone as I sipped my bourbon.
"You need another outlet instead of anything business-related," Cruz mentioned.
I looked at Cruz with curiosity as he handed me a card. I flipped the business card to reveal a name and number on it.
"What is this?" I questioned.
"Call the number and ask for Cherry. Trust me," Cruz said.
I looked at Cruz with intrigue as I slid the card into the inside pocket of my suit coat. I didn't realize how this information would affect my life when Cruz gave me that card.
