Lacey

Thanks to Vincent, I got a babysitter like Joe. I'm still miffed at him for blowing me off, and let him know in no uncertain terms. After ripping him a recent one, I finally calmed down.

"Feel better?" Joe asked me as he sat on the couch as I stood in front of him.

"No, I'm still miffed at you," I huffed as I crossed my arms.

"Lacey, things have been hectic. Carter has been on a rampage. I became tied me up with a few of the girls," he mentioned to me.

I dropped my arms as I took a seat next to him. "What's going on, Joe?"

"Carter has been a complete terror to the other girls. Rafe has done nothing to stop it," he explained to me.

I sighed as I furrowed my brows.

"Lacey, you don't have to worry. I have things handled," he assured me.

I looked at him. "Good, because I don't think I'm returning when this month is over."

"Is there a reason?" He looked at me.

"Vincent offered me to stay with him," I answered as he looked at me, surprised. "But I haven't agreed yet. He told me this morning he would prove to me why I should agree."

"And what do you think?" He asked me.

"It couldn't hurt," I said as he gave me a soft smile. At least I hope it didn't.

Joe and I caught up on everything. It was nice to talk to him. He informed me that Carter and Rafe questioned if he spoke with me. His answer is always no. His reasoning was, he figured if I would break free and clean from the escort life, the less they knew, the better. He was right.

Vincent returned from his meeting, and Joe left. He scooped me up and pulled me into a great kiss. We broke from our kiss.

"You seem like you missed me?" I giggled.

"Oh, you do not understand," he responded with a look. I knew that look. Then he saw the bruise, and his expression changed.

I placed my hand on his face. "Hey, it's okay. I'm resilient and bounce back. Life has been a fascinating teacher."

"Are you sure?" he questioned me.

"I'm positive. I can't let guys like that win. I refuse to allow a bastard to control me or my thoughts," I informed him. It's true. Guys like John always exist. If I sit down and cower in fear, they win. I refuse to let them win. Call me stubborn, but it's my life, and I planned on having control over it.

Vincent looked at me, then pulled me to him as he hugged me. He needed that hug at that moment. We both did.

I pulled back. "But how about something to eat first?"

He nodded as I pulled away, walking into the kitchen. I pulled out items to prepare lunch as he entered the kitchen. He helped me with lunch; then we sat down at the table to eat.

"I killed the deal," he mentioned to me.

I looked at him while I ate.

"You were right. I was doing it because I wanted revenge for how your poor excuse of a mother treated you. I thought by doing so, she would understand how it would feel to have someone destroy her," he admitted to me.

I sighed as I stopped eating, then said, "She didn't destroy me. Yes, I didn't like her explanation, but at least now I know why? The truth isn't always pretty. It's harsh, but it is what it is, truth. You asked me why I talk about being an escort when I hate it? Because it's a harsh reality that life doesn't always turn out the way you expect or want it. But I don't want that life anymore," I admitted not only to him but to myself.
