As soon as we reached Hogwarts, I ran. I ran fast. And I ran blindly. I didn't know how far or how fast I was going, but I just wanted to be alone.
I heard Draco muffled voice shouting my name and following after me, but soon after, his voice drowned out.
The cold winter air stung my face like needles and rushed to my lungs. After what seemed like hours of running through the grounds and rushing through the halls, dodging students and teachers, and taking a few staircases, I found myself at the astronomy tower, again.
I dropped to my knees and curled up in the corner. I let down my guard as the tears rushed out, making it hard to breath. I ran my fingers through my hair as I took a shaky breath.
"why. why. why. WHY. WHY ME. MY LIFE COULDNT GET ANY FUCKING WORSE. BUT THIS JUST- j- just had to happen!?" My throat was soar. I was tired. I had no energy.
I cradled my head in my lap as I sat there silently. Cold. In despair. Feeling weak. Alone.
I slowly looked over at my right forearm. I bit back tears as I ran my finger gently over it. Stabbing pain shot into my hand, but I had no more tears left.
I knew death and despair was what awaited me. By my own father. How cruel. How could a child be put in this position? My heart ached to think that Draco had been going through this and I was so mean to him. I instantly regretted many things I had done before.
I slumped my head against the cold wall and took a deep breath. There wasn't any getting out of this. I was stuck. And I had ran right into their clutches.
Just then what I expected to happen, happened.
"Amber!!!" He stopped as he saw me sitting against the wall.
I wasn't going to let this happen again. He would think I was weak. He had seen me let down my guard before but I refused to do it again.
He bit his lip as realization dawned over him. "Sorry."
I stood up and I could feel my blood boil. I pulled his tie and in an instant he was face to face with me.
He looked startled as I snarled. "Draco Malfoy you bitch- YOU HAVE SINGLEHANDEDLY RUINED MY LIFE AND ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY IS SORRY?! I CANT BELIEVE YOU!"
I tore away as I scoffed. The audacity. I looked behind me to see Draco gripping the railing.
"You think I don't know that Amber? YOU THINK I DONT FEEL BAD?!" He was shaking. "I have to live with all this guilt and weight on my shoulders and now- now I have to-"
He took a shaky breath as he ran his hand through his hair.
"I- I don't know what to say to you Amber." He looked into the distance as it started to rain.
I walked over to the railing. I looked at him. At his eyes. They were filled with so much pain and regret. I couldn't help but feel for him.
"Draco I-" I reached for his arm to comfort him.
He turned around and grabbed my hand in mid-air. I winced as his grip tightened. He scowled.
"I don't need you to feel bad for me. All I need is that I don't get on your bad side. Because then I have to answer to your dad." He glanced to where he held my hand.
He let go and sighed. "I-"
I looked into his eyes. "Here, I know what you need Draco." I pursed my lips.
He hesitated. "What?"
I scrunched my nose and hugged him. His cologne and peppermint scent wrapped around me.
I could feel the tension soften.
Draco's POV~
I sighed. I needed that. Just a hug. Someone to genuinely care.
We both pulled away. "We don't need that to repeat."
She chuckled. I smiled awkwardly. I glanced at her arm. "It gets better." She looked at her arm. I held my hand out.
"May I?" She hesitantly gave her arm. I took her arm and turned it over.
I ran my fingers over the dark mark. She winced. I payed no attention as my heart started beating faster. The memories just came flooding back. I let go of her arm as I ran my hand up my neck. My vision went blurry.
"Draco are you ok?" She raised her eyebrow.
I blinked a couple of times to clear my vision. "I'm fine. Completely fine."
"You sure?" She inched in.
"I said I'm fine Amber." I turned around to face the rain. I looked down.
"Draco don't be like that." She snarled.
My eyes flashed with anger. "Amber, tell me, what am I being like?"
She paused. "I-"
I turned around and grabbed her shoulder. I glanced down. "I am going to leave, and we both are going to pretend this little meeting never happened. I don't need anyone finding out about this." I pushed her away.
I looked back to see her. She stared at me. "See you later Malfoy."
"As well Riddle."
