I walked out of the alley calmly, wiping the beads of perspiration from my forehead. Thankfully, the mundanes did not manage to see where I headed off to so there was no mob threatening to drown me outside, waiting for me. I gulped in mouthfuls of air. Damn, I'm getting too old for this. I looked up at the sky as I panted noisily like a dog. Well, time to get home.
"Lorna?!" Snap. I'd know that voice anywhere. I spun around with a guilty smile. Yep, there he is.
"Hey, James." I cringed slightly. Now I know that the world has it in for me. I mean, what are the chances?! Now I feel guilty as hell.
"What on earth are you doing here? I thought you were busy?" He looked at me suspiciously. Shoot. He remembered. Can't the world be nice to me for once? "Holy...WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR ARM!?" He screeched.
"Shut up!" I hissed, pulling him to a shady corner. I popped my arm back. "Do you want the whole world to know? I dislocated it on purpose to escape a couple of criminals, no big. Will you just chill?"
He cocked an eyebrow. "Seriously? You went looking for trouble again? Wasn't angering all the bullies in our school good enough for you?"
"I don't go looking for trouble! Those guys stole my bag! As for the bullies...they are bullies!"
"Uh-huh. Well, since you're here, wanna grab some food with me?"
"Uh...no thanks. I better get home soon."
"Let me walk you back?"
"I can look after myself, you know. You needn't trouble yourself." I plastered a smirk on my face. "I'll see you around, Whyte."
I turned and left him standing there. It was for his own good, so why do I feel so bad?
It was the 2nd of April. Let us just say that avoiding him did not work out well at all. He was too nice, too determined, too likeable. So I simply did everything to make sure I do not have any of those little moments. And it worked! There were not any moments, and everything was as cool as can be. Maybe we'll just be friends, nothing more...Yeah, famous last words.
There was a knock on the door. I groaned as I woke up and glanced at the alarm clock. It was 9 o'clock. I forced myself out of bed while I pushed my hair down quickly. I pulled open the door with a yawn. "Buddy, it's a Saturday and you wake me up at 9am?! Are you kidding me? I swear I will...Oh, James."
James stood in the doorway, his mouth open as his eyes flicked up and down. He cleared his throat. "Uh...Hey, Lorna...Happy Birthday!"
I blinked. Wait...He remembered? Hey, I was a bit touched. "Uh...Thanks." I smiled, blushing. Shoot, what am I doing? I blinked out of my stupid state. "Um...Wait in the living room while I get changed."
"S-sure." He gulped nervously, a tinge of pink tainting his cheeks and he went into the living room. I closed the door and went into my room to change. I looked into the mirror. My hair was not that messy. I looked down at my dressing gown. I was a floaty periwinkle material that was slightly translucent and showed too much leg. I felt my face warming up. Yeah, last time I'm wearing this.
Quickly, I applied a bit of oil in my hair and applied eye shadow and eye liner to bring out my eyes. Then, I wore my emerald green top and long black skinny jeans. Then, I walked out and sat beside James. "I can't believe you remembered."
James smiled nervously. "Of course I did. I got you a present too." He passed my a box wrapped in red wrapping paper and ribbons. Carefully, I unwrapped it and opened it. I gasped. Sitting inside was two items. One was a beautiful necklace that had a small spherical crystal. But inside the crystal, tiny as can be, were two people, a boy and a girl. The two of us.
