"All in all, I learned a lesson from it, though/You never see it coming/You just get to see it go." -Drake
Me and my crew are all chilling at Davon's house. The usual spot. It's good that I'm able take my mind off of things for a while. We're all sitting watching Madeas Family Reunion. "Bruh, y'all did Mrs. Mack homework?" Slim asks. "You wouldn't have done it, because ya'll always absent." Anasia puts in. I nod my head. "Y'all know we be having to handle business." Slim says. "Whatever." Anasia say. "We ain't seen you around here in a minute." Davon says to Anasia. Anasia blushes. "I've been busy." She responds. "With what?" I ask. "Nothing." She says. But I know it's something. "Bruh. It's no more chips in the bowl." Brian says, waving the empty bowl in the air. "I'll go get some more." I say, getting up. I brush my jeans off. I grab the bowl from Brian. I go into the kitchen and grab the unopened bag of Sweet and Spicy Daritos. I pour it into the over-sized bowl.
I feel strong arms wrap around me. It's Davon. "Why you ain't been talking to me since you got here?" He asks, in my ear. "Davon get off of me." I say, moving his hands. He looks confused. "What I do?" He asks. "I don't think you should be holding me if we're just friends." I say. I know it shouldn't bother me that he said that, but it does. I thought our relationship was deeper than that. "You still hung up on that K?" He asks. "Yes. I thought you liked me." I admit. Davon gives me a sympathetic look. "I do K. But I'm just not into all that relationship stuff." He says. I'm not hearing it. "That's a bunch of shit Davon!" I say, getting loud. "K chill. You got to understand that-" he starts. "Like I said, just drop it. It's obvious I'm not shit to you." I say, putting my hands up to stop. I grab the bowl and go back into the livingroom.
I sit back down in my spot. I sit the bowl in the middle of the floor. "Took yo ass long enough." Brian jokes. I don't laugh. "Girl, lighten up." Samaria says. They dig into the bowl.
A few minutes later, my phone rings. It's Cedric. The fuck he calling me for?
"What?" I ask. "I don't have time for your attitude Karma. Your mother is in the hospital. Memorial. Get down here fast." He says. Then he hangs up. What? "I have to go." I say, standing up. They all look up at me. "Why?" Slim asks. "My mother is in the hosptital."
(At the hospital)
I rush in the waiting room with my friends trailing behind me. I see Cedric. He's standing in the father corner with his hands on his head. We rush over to him. "Cedric what's going on?" I ask, panicking. He looks at me with a glassy expression. I never seen his face look like that before. "I don't know. Me and your mother were talking then, she just passed out. She wouldn't wake up." he explains. Holy shit. My mind flashes back to last night when I said Fuck You. We all sit down and wait for a doctor to update us.
"You alright K?" Samaria asks me. I just shrug. I don't know how I feel right now.
(thirty minutes later)
We've been sitting in silence the whole time, but things got especially quiet when rhe doctor called out. "The Family of Renee Griffin"
We all get up and rush over to him. "Which one of you is the immediate family?" He asks, looking back and forth between our faces. "Me!" Me and Cedric say at the same time. "I'm her daughter." I say. The doctor focuses his attention on me. "Well...Karma your mother is alright, but I'm sorry to have to inform you that your has brain cancer---"
