"Baby if I breakdown, will you catch my tears before they hit the ground?/Baby if I opened my mouth, and let my darkest memories come out/I need you to stick around" - Janine and the Mixtape
I adjust my shades before closing my locker door. The makeup didnt help. The mark was still showing so now im forced to do the typical thing and wear sunglasses in school. I was paranoid leaving the house just morning. I thought Bentley was going to jump out and hit me again. I head down the hallway with my head down as the bell sounds.
SMASH!
I fall down and my sunglasses clatter to the ground. I look up. My eyes lock with Davon. Shit. He frowns. I get off the floor and pick up my shades. "What the hell happened to you Karma!?!" He says. I see the anger on his face. "None of your business." I say, stuffing the shades back on my face. I rush off to class.I rush to my car when the last bell of the day sounds. Im glad the teachers didnt hassle me about my sunglasses. Samaria and Anasia were with me all day. I love them.
As I approach my car, I see Davon standing in front of it. Here we go again. He's blocking the driver door. "Move." I say. Im tired of having niggas surprise me. "What happened?" he asks. "None of your fucking business! Now move!" I erupt. "Im not moving until you tell me whats going on." He seems unbothered by my temper. "I hit my eye on my cabinet door." I lie. Davon squints. "Dont lie to me." he says. I sigh. Today of all days? "We can stand out here all day." he remarks. "Please." I say. "Did someone hit you?" he asks like he already knows. "No." I say sheepishly. "K-" he starts. "ALRIGHT! My ex boyfriend just got out of jail! He attacked me when I got home from school yesterday! There! You happy!?!" I scream. I feel the tears fall down my cheeks. Davon stares at me with a dumbfounded look. "Sorry K." he says. I try to wipe the tears from my face, but they keep coming. Davon walks over to me and wraps his arms around me. I cry into his shirt. "I got you K." Davon says. I dry my eyes. Davon lets go of me. "You hungry?" he asks. I nod. He walks me over to his car. I get in. His car smells just like him. Polo. It calms me. He gets in and starts the car. He drives to McDonalds and orders two Big Macs and two large fries. When I get my food, I dig in. The sandwich is bomb. "Mmm...thank you Davon." I say. "No problem girl." he says.
I sit down on Davons' couch. He took me to his house and now we're in his living room. His parents aren't home. I guess that's a good thing. Davon sits down beside me. I bite my lip. "Why didnt you call the police?" Davon asks. "Because he said he'll kill me if I did." I explain. "How did you get involved with that nigga?" Davon says, disgusted. "We were together for a year and everything was cool until his little brother got shot and killed at the park. He started taking his anger out on me. He used to start arguments so he could hit me. Then, he got obsessed with me. He started leaving me a lot of messages and phone calls when I wasnt around him. One time I spent the night at my friends house and that night he left me 78 voice messages and 32 text messages in one hour. When I tried to leave him, he got a gun and tried to shoot me in my head. Thats when I sent him to jail." I confess. "Damn K. Thats some real shit." Davon remarks. "Yeah." "That motherf.cker still not getting away with putting his hands on you." Davon says, emotionlessly. I smile. "I get why you didnt kiss me now." Davon says. "Yeah. About that." I say. I think Davon deserves a kiss now. I lean over and give him a small peck on the cheek. I laugh. "K, stop teasing me." Davon laughs. He pulls me onto his lap. He puts his hands on my waist and kisses me. The kiss is hot and steamy. Like fire. His lips are hungry. I melt into him. When we pull away, we're out of breath.
"I got the kiss." Davon says happily. It's that childlike happiness again. "I bet you feel lucky." I say, looking into his hazel brown eyes. "Nah. You just couldnt resist me." he jokes. "Yeah right." I laugh. "So what we gonna do now?" he asks. "I guess you can take me home." I say. Davon looks at me for a minute. "Yeah I guess so. It's the least I can do since you kissed me. Ill make sure that nigga aint waiting for you."Davon says, rubbing my hips. I smile and give him another kiss. "Wow, two kisses?" he jokes. I laugh. "You have a pretty laugh ,girl." Davon says admiringly. He is so sweet. I get off of him and stand up. He does the same. "Before we go, I have to do something." he says. He goes into the kitchen and I hear the fridge open. He comes back into the livingroom with a short white tube in his hand. "What's that?" I ask. "It's Coco Butter. Hold still." he says, seriously. When it touches my face I shiver. He rubs it back and forth on my bruise. It feels good against my skin. "That should help the swelling." he says, sounding like a doctor. "Thanks Doctor Sheiffield." I play along. He smiles. "Your welcome K."The drive was short and quiet. Not an uncomfortable quiet, but a pleasant quiet. He pulled into my driveway. I got out. No one was on my porch, thank the Lord. "See ya around." I say. "Ill pick you up for school tomorrow since you left your car." Davon insists. "Okay. Thanks." I say nodding. I walk to my door slowly. I know he's looking at my ass.
