The First Task

The sun peeked through the highest window in the bathroom outside of Gryffindor Tower as y/n sat with her hair tied up in a pile on top of her head. She guessed that she had about another hour before people would start waking up.

"Y/N!" A voice called from around the corner

"Yes?"

"How is our secret operation going!" Fred leaped into view and peered over her small workstation. Y/N had begun the long process of refining the dragon scales into a powerful gunpowder the twins and her wanted to make fireworks from. She had nearly finished grinding the scales in her mortal and pestle, and the book they had stolen from the restricted section (Dragonia: an Encyclopedia on Dragon Scale Uses) said the next step was forming the powder into pebbles and turning them into small pearls by inserting them into freshwater clams.

"It's okay... but some of these steps are really ridiculous"

"Good for you, then, that I, Fred Weasley, have done the impeccable honor of retrieving clams for you!" Fred dragged a huge aquarium full of clams into view, causing y/n to let out a laugh.

Y/N picked up one of the clams the twins had gotten from the lake, it was about the size of her palm and covered in slimy algae, but it would work perfectly for encasing the scale dust. Her and  Fred started the menial task of "feeding" the pebbles to the clams when suddenly George crashed through the doorway.

"Guess what! Guess what!" He shouted, running around in circles

"What! What!" Y/N called back, not looking up from her clams

"I found out what the second task is going to be!"

"What? No way!" Fred exclaimed, "how the hell did you manage that?"

"Okay, I lied, I don't know what the task is, but while I was getting algae from the lake I overheard Dumbledore talking to the mermaids! I don't know like any mermish but I could tell they were talking about the second task!" George recalled the story of him, neck deep in the lake, trying not to attract attention while also trying 'not to drown'.

"So the second task is at the lake then?" Fred asked

"At the very least, yeah"

"Interesting! But more importantly, are you going to help us feed these clams or no?"

"Fiiiiine, but only because I love you y/n" George plopped down next to them and started working. They all sat in silence for a second before y/n cleared her throat and said,

"You know, I've been researching this and I really think that the amount of scales we have can produce like... hundreds of fireworks."

"HUNDREDS?" Fred whisper-shouted

"Yeah! Apparently you only need a pinch to enhance a firework, and even really insane ones like at the World Cup don't even use a ratio more than like 60% at most."

"Y/N I don't know what the hell you just said, but I'm into it!"

"Same here! This is awesome!"

"Joke shop here we come!"

Once all the powder balls had been stuffed into the clams, and the aquarium placed lovingly underneath George's bed, the twins and y/n snuck back into the common room. As they walked, they saw Harry also heading up the stairway to the common room.

"Harry!"

"We figured out the first task!"

"Yeah, I know" Harry sighed, "dragons, right?"
