"Are you ready?" Fred whispered as y/n laced her leather boots tightly against her ankle.
Looking up, Fred's eyes glowed with excitement as he fiddled with the gold ring on his left hand. Y/N stood up, picking up the basket they had gotten and zipping her heavy coat over the dark blue sweater Mrs. Weasley had given her for her past birthday.
"Ready, Freddie" Y/N whispered back
Fred picked up y/n's right hand in his left, and the pair started quietly sneaking through the common room. Opening the portrait door and trying not to wake up the Fat Lady, Fred leaped through the picture frame and held out his other hand to help y/n step through as well. The castle was freezing cold and totally abandoned, the dark hallways only barely illuminated by the occasional floating candle. Y/N giggled as the two of them silently raced down the stairs of Gryffindor Tower hand in hand. When they reached the bottom, Fred put his finger against his lips in a shhhh motion, and the pair flattened themselves against the wall, trying to hide in the shadows as Professor Snape swept through the foyer.
Y/N looked up at Fred, who had one hand against his mouth trying to prevent his breath from showing. He was wearing the dark green sweater Mrs. Weasley had made him for Christmas and his long hair was tucked behind his ears. Fred quickly scanned the hallway and upon deciding it was safe, looked down at y/n to gesture for them to keep going.
The two of them took off down the corridor, their shoes clicking loudly against the tile floor causing y/n to wince with each step.
"Stop!" Y/N whispered, pulling Fred backwards and quickly pulling off her shoes and motioning for Fred to do the same. Hand in hand, holding their shoes in their other, the pair took off again, silently, through the corridor. A wide smile spread across y/n's face as her cold feet slid across the tiles, quickly looking to Fred showed that he was thinking the same thing as her:
This is home for me.
The two of them reached the secret entrance to the kitchens soon enough, and as Fred tickled the pear, y/n retied her boots and organized the basket in her arms. Upon entering, they were greeted by the array of house-elves. Fred whispered their requests to one of the head house elves as y/n handed out the array of trinkets they had brought them. Handing out various crystals, seashells, and rocks to the house elves helping them while Fred filled the basket with food, y/n couldn't help but think of Hermione and the House Elf Liberation Front.
Shaking her head of Hermione's rambling, Fred and y/n were soon back rushing through the castle to the secret passageway leading into Hogsmeade. Judging by the just-rising sun, it was still early enough that they wouldn't be noticed missing for at least a few more hours. Finally out of the castle and in the small town of Hogsmeade, y/n smiled wide, pulling Fred towards the small clearing they had set up for a picnic the night before.
"Finally" Y/N sighed, sitting down on the wide blanket
"Our great escape is a success indeed" Fred said, wiggling his eyebrows
"Oh hush" y/n laughed, leaning in to quiet a giggling Fred with a deep kiss.
Fred's warm face radiated heat against hers as she inhaled the cinnamon-y smell of his shampoo. As they kissed, y/n tasted the distinct flavor of sugar icing and strawberry jam.
"Hey! I thought we said we were waiting until we got here to eat!" She laughed, pulling away
"Sorry! Couldn't help but nick an extra tart" Fred smiled
"Boo on you"
Fred placed his hand against his heart, pretending to be offended as he pulled another jam tart out of thin air with his wand. Handing it to y/n, he made a kissy face and raised his eyebrows, leaning in towards y/n, who took the tart out of his hand and pecked Fred on the lips before taking a big bite out of the jam and scone.
