"Well, Ms. Granger?" Snape said smugly as the rest of the classroom gaped at her, "Should we be expecting Ministry officials to escort you from campus?"
"No-" y/n choked out before clearing her throat, "no I-"
"You've? You've what? Spit it out Granger" he mocked
"I've been offered a position at the Ministry" she finally said, causing people to turn their heads towards her in confusion.
"Well, well, well. I assume that's what happens to most of the insufferable know it alls at this school. I'm surprised they let your kind into the Ministry at all, but I suppose they do need janitors" Snape responded, unfazed.
Filthy Mudblood!
The memory rang through her ears as Snape spoke, causing her face to burn red with anger.
"Don't you have anything better to do except pick on muggle borns?" Fred nearly shouted.
Y/N had been focused entirely on Snape's berating comments that she hadn't noticed Fred's vein popping out of his head and his teeth grinding into a snarl.
"Don't you have anything better to do than ruin your bloodline, you fucking traitor!" A Slytherin shouted from across the room. Y/N recognized him to be the same one who she bumped into a while ago.
What was his name? Goals? Ghalls? Something like that...
"Can't be much worse than you snogging with Pansy! Aren't you practically cousins?" Fred retorted, narrowing his eyes and his fingers twitching towards his wand.
Y/N opened her mouth to say something but stopped herself. Wouldn't she be doing the same thing if their situations were reversed? Slowly pulling her wand out from her robes, she pointed at the Slytherin boy and focused all her energy into imagining a spark lighting is robes on fire.
Ignacio! Come on... fire! Sparks! A lighter? Ignacio! Ignacio Ig--
"Bloody hell!"
Y/N opened her eyes to see the hood of the boy's robe go up in flames, catching onto his collar and his hair as he furiously ripped the cloak off and was stomping out the fire.
"Weasley!" Snape roared
"It wasn't me! You were staring right at me! I don't even have my wand!" Fred shouted holding up his hands innocently
"Granger, then" Snape hissed
"Professor, wouldn't you have noticed my incantations? I haven't done anything"
"Ten points from Gryffindor!" Snape said as he narrowed his eyes
"For what?!" Fred asked
"For talking back. Giles, get yourself to the hospital wing. I expect there to be no more discourse in this silent study hall unless, y/n you have something else you'd like to distract us with?"
"No sir." Y/N said angrily, turning back to her Herbology paper.
Although she tried her hardest to focus, y/n couldn't help but let her thoughts drift to Mr. Ludvigson and the blackmail he's putting her through.
Was this even legal?
She knew the first thing to do was to tell Angelina and the twins. The moment the bell rang, y/n slipped her bag over her shoulder and sped out of the classroom, nearly bumping into Angelina and George who were waiting outside.
"Whoa! You okay?" George asked, backing up
"Hey y/n" Angelina asked softly, "What's wrong?"
"And where have you two been this whole time, snogging?" Fred joked as he walked through the doorway behind y/n
"We finished hours ago but didn't want to go back in." George answered, "We've been waiting out here for you lot"
"Come on." Y/N said quietly, "Let's go to the owlery"
Walking up from the dungeons and then up the rickety stairs to the owlery, y/n explained everything. The conversation with Ludvigson before the first task, the potential job she was offered at the cost of being a snitch, and the implication that if everything didn't go according to plan she might end up in court.
While she talked, Angelina and the twins listened intently and silently until they got to the base of the last set of stairs.
"Well, you know you can't just let him get away with this!" Fred said
"It's bloody blackmail!" George added
"Yeah! Blackmail!"
"Maybe you should figure out some way to blackmail him back!"
Angelina stayed silent as the four of them walked up to the door, George walking backwards as he pushed it open.
"Oh. Hermione." Y/N said, looking as Ron, Harry, and Hermione all were sitting in the owlery pinning letters and packages to owls.
"What's this about blackmail?" Ron said nervously
"None of your business, Ronald" George spat out
"It's bloody well my business!" He said "If you all are getting into something illegal, again I will tell Mum! I will!"
"Oh forget it, Ron" Hermione huffed, "they're never going to tell us so who cares?"
"It's not illegal and no we can't tell you." Y/N said, helping the twins tie a letter onto the foot of a nearby owl. "Official Ministry business"
"Ministry business?" Harry asked cautiously
"She's been offered a job already" Angelina perks up, "Top of her class she is"
"Are you gonna be an Auror?" Ron asked in shock
"What's an Auror?" Harry whispered
"Wizard police" Ron whispered back, "Er- sort of"
Y/N ignored them as she pulled another red URGENT letter off of an owl meant for her. She didn't want it going off in the Great Hall and causing another commotion.
"You're going to be an AUROR??" Hermione practically shouted as the twins tried to act nonchalant.
"No. I'm not. Again. Secret Ministry Business" Y/N said dramatically as the twins sent the owl off and the four of them started back towards the stairwell.
"I'm telling Mum!" Hermione called out as the door closed behind them.
Slouching against the stone wall, George pulled the letter from her hands and ripped it open.
"Hey!" Y/N called out laughing
"Okay blah blah blah, if you're interested you need to announce so tonight in the Great Hall blah blah blah, you must release black sparks if you wish to continue" George read off
"Black sparks? Isn't that a bit obvious?" Angelina scoffed as George mumbled through the rest of the letter.
"It says that the sparks are kind of a test, like if you can make a scene without getting noticed I think" George continued. Once he reached the bottom of the page, again it tore itself to pieces and lit aflame.
"Should be a piece of cake, right y/n? We do fireworks all the time" Fred said smiling and raising his eyebrows
"You aren't thinking--"
"I am, my love. I think it's time to bring out the fireball"
