Time seemed to pass by slower with every second we drove back to the office. It's like there were double the red lights than normal, stopping us from getting my mom back. The world seemed to dim as the seconds passed. Grey. Cold. Lonely.

Fucking terrifying.
____

We had gotten nowhere so far on the case. Just daily proof of life of my mother from Cat. It's been a week, she's all alone with her and I just don't know what to do.

I was sitting on the bench at the park Y/n & I had our first date, playing with the little hems of stressed string on my cardigan. She didn't know I was here. Since we've been staying at the BAU, I left early in the morning and now I'm here watching the sunrise. I needed to get out of the office, it had been an agonizing week with the constant reminder that every passing second was a second longer my mother was stuck with Cat.

I breathed in and out deeply, watching the orange and pink hues spread across the sky. I heard the crunching of fall leaves under someone's feet behind me. Then I felt a presence next to me on the bench. I already knew who it was without even looking at her.

"How'd you know I'd be here?" I asked quietly.

"Wild guess," She hummed softly, leaning her head against my shoulder. "Also you always come here to think."

"Cause it reminds me of you," I said simply. Because it was simple. Everything came so easily when it was with her.

"What's going on then, hm? Talk to me. Please?" She begged quietly.

I sighed, turning my head and looking down at her. I smiled when I noticed she was wearing my CalTech sweatshirt. She once told me she liked wearing my clothes because it felt like I was hugging her.

"I'm just scared. I don't know why I haven't found her yet. Why I haven't figured this out. It's messing with my mind and I just—" I took a sharp breath, trying to hide the way my voice broke through my words.

She lifted her head off my shoulder and turned to me, cupping my cheeks. "I can't even imagine how stressed and worried you are. But you just need to breathe for a minute, okay?"

"Yeah, okay," I steadied my breathing as she smiled at me softly.

"Better?" She questioned.

"You make everything better," I grinned at her.

She laughed, falling back into my arms. "Can you read to me?" She asked softly.

"Of course I can, pretty girl."

She sat up and grabbed Little Women from her bag next to her. She smiled at me widely, placing the book in my hands.

"I've been wanting to read this. I just got it two weeks ago and I was waiting for a chance when you could read it to me," She said shyly.
