Kiernan held Rosie's sweaty hand as they stood in front of the familiar door.
Today was the day Rosie would have dinner with her father for the first time in four and half years. She was nervous as all hell.
Having Kiernan there did help but she still couldn't calm her nerves.
"Darling, relax. It's going to be alright." Kiernan told her.
"You're right, it's totally cool. I'm cool. Cool as a cucumber." Rosie rambled.
Kiernan knocked on the door with a smile and Rosie yelped.
"Why would you do that?" She whisper yelled.
"If we stand out here any longer it borderlines creepy."
The door swung open and Rosie was met with the familiar face she hadn't seen in forever.
"Ellie." Her dad smiled.
He opened his arms for a hug and Rosie immediately launched forward to hug him. She'd forgotten how amazing he always smelled.
What a cute moment. Kiernan said as she took a mental picture.
Rosie walked in the house and her mind was filled with sweet memories of her family. Her dad gave Kiernan the tour and got to know her and Rosie caught up with her sister.
"It's really nice to meet you Mister Jacobs." Kiernan said politely.
"Please, call me Eric."
"You got it Eric." She awkwardly laughed. She cleared her throat to glaze it over, "is this Rosie?" She pointed to a picture.
In the kitchen Rosie found her sister sitting on a countertop waiting for the dinner to be done.
"Ellie!" Lily went in for a hug.
"How's college so far?" She had to pry her sister off of her.
"Boring, fun, stupid, awesome. College is a weird place."
Rosie laughed and her dad entered the room with Kiernan.
"Dinners ready." Lily announced.
"Ooh finally." Rosie clapped her hands together.
In the beginning of dinner it was a little awkward and stiff. No one really spoke unless to compliment the food.
Then Kiernan (with her weird thing of hating awkward silences) began to talk about work and asked questions about their family.
Then dinner went smoothly. Rosie even got an apology from her dad. Which did bring tears to her eyes against her will.
Rosie and Kiernan offered to take care of the dishes and the blonde looked up to her girl.
"Dinner went well." Kiernan said with a know-it-all tone.
"I know I know. You were right." Rosie rolled her eyes playfully. "I really liked this. Haven't seen my dad in a long time and it's nice to know he changed."
"Ooh family, getting closer with other family." Kiernan sang.
Rosie chuckled and dried off her hands.
"My answer is yes, by the way." Rosie heard her comment.
"To..."
"Moving in. I wanna invade your personal space and wake up next to you in the morning." This made them both smile.
Rosie kissed Kiernan abruptly and sweetly.
"I'm really glad you said that, cause I have a surprise for you." Rosie looked intently into her eyes hoping she wouldn't be mad.
"Good surprise or bad surprise?"
"Stay tuned for more." Rosie slowly walked away.
"You can't do that in real life Miss."
"Sorry, tune in tomorrow." Rosie laughed as Kiernan ran after her in the living room.
They were going to watch a movie with her dad and sister before they left.
"Ellie before you go, i was hoping this could be a traditional thing. Whenever you're free? I'd like to make up for the four years of dinner I missed." Eric asked as they got ready to go.
"I'd really like that dad." Rosie smiled.
"I'm also so very proud of who you are, I'm sorry I didn't say that before."
Rosie fought back her stupid tears and nodded. "You said it now, that's what counts."
They hugged again and looked across the room to see Kiernan laughing at Rosie's old baby pictures.
"You've got a good one , I like her."
"I do too." Rosie said as Kiernan giggled to Lily.
The whole drive back Rosie felt a strong sense of happiness. Kiernan kept asking what her surprise was and but the brunette wouldn't budge.
"Hey this isn't the way home." Kiernan noticed.
"Actually...it is now." Rosie lifted her arms. "Surprise!"
She parked the car in front of an adorable tiny house.
"I bought it...for us-to live in." Rosie said nervously with a smile.
Kiernan didn't say anything and Rosie felt worried.
"I pulled a Jim." She laughed way louder than necessary.
Kiernan was still silent.
"Come on I'll give you the tour." Rosie took the girls hand and led her into the house.
It was very quaint and pretty inside. It looked like a cottage but not in a forest. The inside was mostly white and green. There were plants everywhere and pretty rugs on gorgeous hardwood floors.
"This is our bedroom." Rosie opened a door to a beautiful room that held a big white bed, a plant hanging from the ceiling, and even a table in the middle of the room. With various items on the walls and dressers next to the bed.
"We have a bathroom in there too, isn't that crazy?" Rosie chuckled.
Kiernan hadn't said a word as she admired the little house.
Rosie cleared her throat. "We have the guest bedroom next to the spare bathroom. Ooh another bathroom-I didn't even see that one. Ooh over here's the kitchen. It's huge cause I know you like cooking."
The blonde looked at the white counters and amazing high quality stoves.
"Over here is the living room. AKA my favorite room." This was the best of all.
There was Kiernan's art from her apartment in here, a small white couch and a pretty yellow sofa in the middle of the room. There was a desk with red poppy's on top of it.
This was a beautiful home.
"So you're uncharacteristic quietness is making me just a wee bit nervous and-"
"I love it." She whispered.
"You love it?"
"Yeah, you Jimmed me. I feel like Pam right now except better. This house is the most beautiful thing ever. It's so quaint." Kiernan began to laugh and make Rosie feel better as she looked around more.
"I know we travel a lot for work and our lives are crazy hectic but, this could be our safe space you know. When one of us, or both of us, is done with work we come here. At home."
"I love that. I love this-I love you." Kiernan said embracing her.
Rosie felt so much better, and even happier. Today was a great day. Now she gets to spend time in her humble abode with someone as amazing as Kiernan.
"I love you too." Rosie kissed her.
