All too well

"Do you know how we conceived Alice?" Aria drank some OJ.

It was nightfall in Chewa Island and almost midnight which meant that Mother's Day was over and Aria was back in the house. Serena sat down next to her, pouring some red wine for herself.

She couldn't help but smile, "Do I want to know?"

"Maybe, it's pretty lovely."

"Alright, ravish me then."

Aria chocked on her drink, "You need to think your sentences in your mind out loud before you speak them out loud."

Serena laughed, thinking about the joke Gary would've made if he was present.

"So... we had recently arrived in Chewa Island, Alain and I were building the home and his Charizard was smuggling in wood from all the parts of the island, the electricity was new, we'd done all the wiring and at one point, he'd accidentally shocked me."

"Sounds romantic."

Aria playfully hit her arm, "When the construction was finished, at night, I pugged on my reading lamp and it cause a circuit overload, there was a little spark and the lights went off, in the middle of the bleeding summer."

"Really?"

Aria eagerly nodded, "So we stumbled into the kitchen hoping to score a popsicle or two before they melted, surprisingly, the refrigerator was working, lights and all. So we stood in the front, soaking in the cool air and just then... Alain took my hand in his and we... ended up dancing around the kitchen in the refrigerator light."

Serena couldn't help but smile, "Is dancing an euphemism?"

Aria shrugged, "Maybe. You know what is the best memory I have of Alain?"

"Tell me."

"Do you remember the little red convertible I drove around Kalos?"

"Who doesn't?"

"Well... on our first date, I let Alain drive it. We're out in the country, the sun roof is off, my hair is wild and my scarf is flowing along... My eyes were etched on the ground but then suddenly we were stopped by officer Jenny because he ran the red."

"What?" She said whimsically, "he never stuck me as a rule breaker."

"Haha funny," she snarled, "do you know why he ran the red?"

The blonde shook her head.

"Because he was looking at me and my windblown hair. Many men had looked at me before, but Alain... he was the first to see me. It was at that moment that I fell in love with him."

Serena couldn't help but remember the last time she'd heard something as romantic as the love story of Alain and Aria. It was a shame it ended in tragedy, but then again, most things did.

"What are you thinking?" Said Aria, her voice as soft as the summer breeze that day in the Kalos.

"Nothing... just, I'm sorry... for Alain, I mean."

"I am too," Aria sighed, "but I'm more upset for Derek and Alice, they never got to spend more time with their father, he was such an amazing dad."

The blonde didn't know how to react, she could do nothing but sympathise.

"You know..." Aria refilled her drink, "just because my story is over... doesn't mean that yours have to be too."

"What now?"

Aria sighed, "You know what I'm talking about sweetie."

"I—I don't," she looked down.

A sigh escaped Aria's lips as she took Serena's hand in her's. "I can't imagine what you went through in that... that horrid place but it's been two years Serena, stop punishing yourself. We'll be fine, you can go home."

"I'm not punishing myself and I am home."

She gently shook her head, "Home is where your heart is and your heart isn't on Chewa, you know where it is. I'm... so so grateful for the past few years but now.... you don't have to stay Serena. You can go, just because my love is dead doesn't mean that yours have to be. Go, Serena. Avenge Derek and Alice's father for them."

Before the blonde could speak, a cry echoed through the baby cam. Serena withdrew her hand from Aria's grasp and went to look after little Derek saying, "It's still mother day after all."
