"Ria and Yara's curiosity will definitely be the death of me

"Ria and Yara's curiosity will definitely be the death of me." Grunted Scarlet whilst shaking of strands of primeval spider webs that covered the shabby basement. The doddery floorboards creaked as it refused to hold up their weight. Annabelle felt cold: not the icy cold due to a physical temperature drop, but the cold of when ones blood decides to battle to  remain unnaturally still instead of circulating, spinning the wheel of life. She thought she'd drop dead any second.

"Remind me again, why are we here?" Scarlet's patient was running out at a very quick rate, she could never control her anger. Yeretzi turned around to give Scarlet a look which was supposed to represent a dangerous death glare, but it only lead to Scarlet bitting her lower lip to stop herself from laughing.

"To uncover why our unnamed source thinks he saw a zombie under our very own school." The excitement bubbling within Ria was powerful, enough to make the impenetrable darkness look less patronising. One could never guess, watching Ria navigate through the darkness, that she once was afraid of the dark. Ria blocked away all memories of the little girl crying in the dark; she stored all those memories up in a box to which the key seems to be missing, or so she thought. "And perhaps to discover the bygone left behind."

"I can't believe I wasted my sleep to come to school on a Saturday that we actually have off, just so you could satisfy your fantasies." Scarlet though the word angry would be an understatement, she was raging and she was going to take her thunder out on them soon.

"Shush Scar, if there is a zombie, it might hear you and attack us." Annabelle's tone was harsh and deadly serious.

"You seriously believe—"

"Maybe, it will take our eye balls out and keep them as treasures." Annabelle interrupted Scarlet. The girls paused in their steps and turned around to questioningly stare at Annabelle. Annabelle was starting to show random outburst of... well darkness. Ria was proud of her friend, they all were.

"What?"

Before Ria could speak, they all heard one single footstep.

Just one thump, it didn't even move again.

"Hello?"

A cacophonous roar of ear piercing screams erupted within the low ceiling basement. The girls came to realise, it was their own screams.

Ria shone the beacon of heavenly light radiating from her phone directly in front of her. She was confused by what her eyes were seeing.

"Lucas Underworld?" Their voices rose in sync. "What are you doing here?" Ria asked, wondering what business Lucas had in the basement.

"Well I should ask you people the same question." He challenged as though he owned the underfloors, he was an Underworld at the end of the day.

"We are—" Yeretzi was about to reveal their adventures before realising that Lucas would think they were lunatics and could risk rupturing their pristine reputation if she had mentioned another word.

"We are..." stalled Ria, hoping something would magically appear within her overly thoughtful brain that usually never helped in situations as the one she was stuck in. "We are..."

A sudden reluctant outburst vibrated within Ria's finger. She yelped before realising her phone was ringing.

I owe you, Phantom.

"Who's Phantom?" Lucas asked curiously, he found it quiet amusing to see Overview's best and brightest in the basement, everyone has secrets, he knew that very well.

The RAYS all exchanged glances. Ria thought she had said that in her head, but it seems that she would have to tell another soul, another secret, one that'll probably make Lucas think they were crazy to no extent. She took a deep breath and answered. "Phantom, is my phone. I named him Phantom, you have a problem, Underworld?" Lucas raised his a brow and shook his head 'no' whilst inhaling loudly. "Well then, if you'll excuse me, I have a call to attend to."

She stepped behind Yeretzi and accepted the call. "Hello, mother. What is it that you require?" The others tried to piece Ria's short conversation together using her replies. "Woah! I thought... Damien's recognises her right?" Yeretzi knew many things about Ria, but the most important one was that she hated not being present when something happened, she had a strong feeling something was wrong. "Already? I'll be there in approximately twenty minutes. See you there."

Yeretzi waited expectantly, but Ria didn't say anything, like she was lost deep within her mind. Ria looked like she had seen a ghost. "What did Mrs Colton want?"

"She wants me home. To Kildare Manor, they're all there." she turned to Yeretzi. A crease evolved on her pale skin. "They also found Kit Kat."

Scarlet felt cold; a cold that grew from within her. Unease— constricted within her soul. "Kit Kat? Wasn't Kit Kat your... dead cat?"

"She was missing. But we thought she was dead so we gave her a funeral." Ria lifted her eyes off Phantom and gave them all an apologetic look. "Sorry guys but I need to go. You guys can carry on..." she glanced at Lucas who seemed more curious than before. "Investigating. I'll talk to guys later."

"It's fine, we'll come later." Yeretzi assured to which Ria acknowledged with a curt nod.

"Ria's moving into that, loony manor?" Lucas asked as look as Ria seemed out of breach. They all turned to look at Lucas Underworld, but no one answered his question, neither had they asked any.

Annabelle hesitated, she had a question, a question which she thought was trivial. No question was ever trivial, questions vowed survival in a world where lies proved success. But it wasn't only the fear of being trifling that lurked in her befuddled mind, it was also fear of being a coward. Annabelle never asked her question, it could have saved Ria's life, maybe even a stranger's life too.

Lucas's eyes fell upon his sleeping bag, he kicked it behind his feet, into the darkness. He thought no one saw it, but Yeretzi had and she had decided to keep it a secret.

"Come guys, lets go."

Scarlet watched Yeretzi shadow recede. She felt the same fear that she felt a year ago. She was worried about Ria. Something felt wrong, wrong to the core but she couldn't tell Ria what she had done last summer.

A year ago, Scarlet Brunes had murdered Kit Kat in cold blood and jealousy. She buried the cat in her garden and placed a rose plant pot over it so no one would ever dig it up or even think to look.

Kit Kat was back. Scarlet wondered how? But she should have been wondering, who?

Kit Kat is such an adorable name!

I might not be the beta writer in the world but I do have a talent in turning all my characters into something you wouldn't expect it, my seekers know that very well. Hehe
