"That was amazing! Did you see how close to the target that was? I swear if we stayed a bit longer I would've hit it bull's eye! We have to come back daddy!" I ramble as I'm engulfed by excitement.
" I'm glad you liked it." My dad simply says .
Awkward silence suddenly fills the car with the air thick with unspoken words.
"I'm sure you have lots of questions. So ask away before we get home." He says looking ahead.
" Where did you learn how to shoot like that?" I finally ask after battling with myself on what to ask first.
" Well I've had to make some bad hard choices in the past to simply survive and a gun paved the way."
Seeing he tried his best to explain I tried my best to understand. I simply nodded
" I regret that part of my life but it led me to you." He said and seemed to regret having uttered the words.
" What do you mean?"
"I mean that with my past comes meeting your mother then you." He said smiling convincingly.
" How did you meet my mother?"
"Story for a another day." He said closing off. Taking the hint I vowed inwardly to ask one last question before he closes off completely.
" Why did you bring me here today?"
" It was time . You've just turned eighteen and I think it's the perfect time. I need to know that you'd be able to take care of yourself when I'm not around anymore. A gun would be your protection adding how I taught you to fight back. "
" Am I in danger?" I asked breaking my vow.
" No honey. Just to be safe." He said avoiding eye contact. He stared right ahead and I knew he had closed off completely.

The rest of the drive home was quite with each of us clearly in deep thought. I can tell that my dad is masking away some truth and I feel the urge to uncover it.

"Babe what do you think about guns? " I ask Jordan as we're laying on the roof of my car watching the stars.
" Guns?"
" Yeah? Would you own one?"
" Well no ; I wouldn't have anything to do with a gun."
" You don't ever want to know how it feels to use one?"
" Well I'ts crossed my mind a few times. What's with the gun questions?" He asks suspicion clear in his voice.
" I've been watching too many action movies I guess." I lie.

His silence leads me to believe that he bought my cover up. My gun shop visit has been lurking in my head all day. I've been amazingly feeling the urge to hold a gun once more. My dad's suspicious behaviour also calls for concern and I don't know how to deal with it. I wish I could talk to Jordan about it but I'm not sure if I should. I curl up closer to him as I yearn to feel that someone is there for me. I can't escape the fear that lurks in my heart. I have a feeling that things might be approaching an ugly turn.

{ I thought I should introduce Jordan the boyfriend. He might be a small character but he might play a rather huge role. Stay tuned!}
