KEVIN'S POV
Arousing from the deepest sleep I've had in forever, I feel my head heavy. It has excruciating pain that I'm familiar with. Usually is a disease I suffer from every once in a while when I almost finish a bottle of whiskey. I used to handle this better back in my wild days.
Yesterday's events come gushing back ...
A woebegoned me answered a video call from my dad. I would have much rather done anything else than to answer it but I had no choice. I had delayed this for too long.
His hard apathetic face appeared on the screen and I wished the world could just swallow me up. Hatred and resentment was written all over his face. Not the type of picture a son would expect from his father and you'd think I'd be used to it by now.
"Aren't you going to greet your father?" His deep voice bellowed in command.
"Hello Baba!" I said in a low voice.
"You mumble now when I'm talking to you!? You seem to forget I'm your father! " He continued loudly.
I didn't say anything. I just tried hard to keep a straight face .
"Your impudent behaviour will not be tolerated! Didn't I tell you to come as soon as possible?"
"Yes you did but I've been caught up." I said my voice low as possible.
" You've been caught up!? What kind of nonsense is this? What could be more important than a summon from me?" He shouted.
" It's business Baba. I couldn't just leave." I explained as firmly as possible.
" You're talking about the business I started for you!? You're pathetic!" He snickered.
Those words I should be used to by now but they seem to cut deeper into my heart everytime. I kept quiet like a little boy and let my father belittle me.
"You would never grow up Kevin! You're always pulling little boy stunts . Can never take care of your business as a man. "
"Dad I was going to come soon I promise. " I said as calmly as possible trying to hide the pain.
"I thought I should give you the respect and tell you this face to face but clearly you don't deserve it. " He said face firm as a motionless rock. "The date has been set for your wedding to the princess. It's time you two met. The elders have already met so it has to be very soon."
"Why was I never told about this ?" I said raising my voice due to agitation and shock.
"Don't raise your voice at me! You knew this day would come. It's time you became useful to our family!"
"You can't arrange a marriage for me . I never agreed to this. "
" I can and I have. Stop throwing a tantrum and come home. We need to prepare for the wedding. The bridal price has already been paid you just need to meet your bride." He said without any emotion. It was as though he was talking to one of his servants.
" How do you pay the bridal price without talking to me ? "
"That doesn't matter. For once be the man we'll all be proud of."
"I won't marry the princess!" I said as firmly as I could without any disrespect.
"You will! Or I will make you. " He said his words caring so much threat in them. "I will take away all that you think you own and I will disown you. I own you!"
