"They've breached the hull," Kristen stares at Myles.
The exasperated Russian sighs. "Yes,"
Kristen sighs with frustration. She knows those holes will have to be patched and that means extra work for Charlie's team. Kristen wonders how to get them off. Clearly, the space pods want to be on the ship. They may need the ship but the ship doesn't need the pods.
"Find a way to get them off without causing more damage,"
"Captain with your permission I would like to try the light again. I've made some adjustments and think this will have a greater effect," Lieutenant Harper states. He hands Kristen his pad. On it is a new set of graphs, glyphs and statistics.
Kristen takes a few minutes to thoroughly go over the data. Lieutenant Harper stands idly by, his hands refusing to rest by his side. Anxiety getting the better of him. He glances over to his first officer. Myles smiles and nods.
"When your ready Lieutenant," Kristen settles in her chair mentally preparing herself, for the worst and best.
Lieutenant Harper begins his test. Like before rough, harsh humming emits from the space pods. Scraping comes from the hull. This time everything is louder.
Lieutenant Harper pushes the limit. Past the time they tried last time. But nothing. The pods just won't budge. If anything they will dive deeper, crushing the ship and the decks with it.
Lieutenant Harper turns off the lights and turns to his captain. He goes to say something but stops. He knows that expression. She's not listening. She's thinking about all the possible outcomes.
Kristen stares at the glowing pods. Her lips pursed. "They just won't quit,"
Myles approaches his captain. He places his hand on the shoulder of the chair, like usual. "Captain if I may, I'd like to return to the bio lab and run a few more tests,"
"Of course,"
Myles turns and motions to Lieutenant Harper. Myles walks towards the lift with the Lieutenant in his wake. Something sparks in the first officer's mind. He pivots. "Oh and I'd like to take a spacewalk,"
"Why?"
"I want to get a sample,"
Kristen mulls it over. "Granted."
_____"If you feel like the pods are agitated get out of there," Kristen grabs Myles by the arm of his suit to make him look at her. To make sure he knows she means business.
Myles looks down at his tiny captain. For him at least, it's sometimes hard to take her seriously. Then he remembers she knows how to kick anyone's ass and will. "I will, but not before I get that sample,"
"Victorovich,"
"Kristen,"
"Myles,"
"Let's go, Myles," Israel states as she walks into the airlock. Kristen shakes her head.
"How did you get roped into this?" Kristen turns to her primary navigation officer.
"I'm the best spacewalker on this ship. He'd be foolish not to take me," Israel smiles. She fixes her suit so everything fits just right and where she wants it.
"Right, you have me beat in hours. I am catching up," Kristen smiles, she hands Myles and Israel their helmets. "I have a walk planned for next week. That is if we get the pods off the ship,"
"You won't catch up," Israel smiles.
"We'll see about that," Kristen steps outside the airlock. She closes the door behind her. Her two officers click their helmets into place.
