Mason wanted to put his mace to Liam's face.

Oh...maybe the daughter of Apollo was getting to his head.

He NEVER rhymed.

Anyways, not only did Liam partner him up with Char, but he and Charlotte also snuck up on him and Char when they were actually getting close.

And she kissed me! Mason remembered as the four of them sprinted to the entrance of camp. While it was only on the cheek, it was definitely a big step.

Mason felt around in his pocket to make sure the disc was still in it. It luckily was.

Liam and Charlotte's shoes squeaked from the water that soaked into them as they ran.

"You guys aren't really helping the stealthy aspect of the plan," he reminded them as they ran.

"Oh, shut up love bird," Liam snapped, grinning.

Mason cursed himself on falling into that one.

As the four of them approached the main gate, a series of guards stopped them.

"What are you doing out here?" one guard demanded in a deep tone.

Charlotte cleared her throat and handed the guard the stolen document. "We have important business outside of camp that needs our attention," she told him confidently.

The guard scanned it and nodded. "Very well. Proceed."

"And you're positive this will work?" Char asked Mason as he pulled out the thin disc.

"Of course it will Char, stop worrying," he reassured her, though deep down, he was having some doubts himself.

The ocean below the dock they were standing on glittered from the moonlight. It had taken them almost an hour to reach it from camp.

Mason held the disc out in front of him and pressed the button in the middle of it.

The instrument suddenly grew into a cylinder shape and immediately started growing.

The son of Vulcan grinned and hurled it into the water.

He could see his friends stare at him as if he had ten heads.

Please work, Mason pleaded. Father, if you can hear me, please let my creation work.

There was a long moment of silence.

The waves crashed gently into the sand.

Nothing happened.

"Is it supposed to take this long?" Charlotte asked, watching the surface of the water.

Mason didn't respond. He had spent almost an entire year trying to make the ship, only to have it fail the one time his friends needed him most.

Char put a gentle hand on his shoulder and gave him a warm smile.

Liam cursed in Latin under his breath. "What now?"

Charlotte took a deep breath. "We can take the bus routes as far as we can. Then-"

Before she could finish, a large shape grew from the sea. It creaked and groaned, eventually revealing a large boat that looked like a Roman ship, only slightly smaller.

Mason grinned from ear to ear and turned to his friends who stared at it in awe. "Welcome aboard Navis Vulcani, the ship of Vulcan!"
