"So we pack our bags and make our move tonight." The son of Mercury pointed to lines of rectangular buildings: the Barracks, also known as the sleeping quarters.
"Try to keep your load light and easy to carry," he continued. "Then we will meet up behind the Bath House."
Mason scrunched his nose up. "Why the Bath House? Unless Liam wants to get a spa before we leave."
Liam glared at him. "We meet behind the Bath House so Charlotte and I can get into the sewage system."
Charlotte knit her eyebrows. "Why are we going into that slimy pit again?"
Liam pointed to the principia. "About a year and a half ago, I was nominated to clean the sewers for a day."
"What an honor," Mason snickered.
Liam ignored him. "While I was there, I did some exploring around and found a hidden trapdoor that led to the Praetors' office."
Charlotte snapped her fingers. "Most likely an escape passage in case any unwanted invaders busted in. The Romans always acted paranoid after the assassination of Julius Caesar. They began to ban weapons in the Senate House and create small escape passages in their working quarters."
Liam nodded.
"But why do we need to get into the principia?" Char asked, crossing her arms.
"Well," Liam started. "I'm not sure if you three know, but when quests take place, Praetors sign a document to finalize the quest and the departure date, and to give to the guards at the front gate beforehand. If we're lucky, they haven't given it to them yet. The Praetors manage to make the process quite discrete."
"So...we need to steal the document?" Charlotte asked, leaning on the table, obviously deep in thought.
"Exactly."
"Then what do Mason and I do?" Char pouted. "I want some sneaky action!"Liam grinned slightly. "No offense Char, but you aren't the most stealthy person."
"Well neither is Charlotte!"
"She can fly. Besides, you two will stand guard outside the sewer."
Char grunted.
Liam could see Mason's eyes widen slightly. The son of Vulcan kicked his leg under the table.
Liam shot him a warning, along with a smug grin. He knew exactly why his best friend was so anxious.
While Charlotte and himself would try to steal the document, Mason and Char would be left outside alone, and Liam totally didn't plan it that way.
"Okay," Charlotte urged the plan on. "Once we get the document we need, what do we do then?"
"After we get it, we will meet back up with Char and Mason and make our way to the front gate. Once we arrive there, we hand the paper to the guards and we're on our way."
Charlotte's eyes widened suddenly.
Liam's neck went hot. Was there something wrong with his plan? Did she think it wouldn't work?
"There's one problem," she said, scratching her chin.
"What is it?" he asked.
"Mode of transportation?"
There was a moment of silence.
Liam cursed under his breath in Latin. "Did not think of that one."
Mason's eyes lit up. "I've got it."
"What?" everyone demanded at the same time.
The son of Vulcan grinned. "Navis Vulcani."
