The first day of sailing had been surprisingly clear.

There were no monsters, no gods, or no unwanted guests, however, that changed once the crew had made a pit stop in Dillon Beach.

"This place is awesome!" Char exclaimed, looking at the swarms of tourists on the beach.

Occasionally, a few of them would stop and take pictures of Navis Vulcani. Charlotte guessed the Mist made it look like a small yacht or a pontoon plane.

"Too bad we can't stay here longer," Mason said, putting on a pair of sunglasses. "I could get used to this place."

"Alright, we just need to get in town, get some extra provisions, and continue the journey," Charlotte reminded them.

Liam nodded, shaking a bag of money. "We can use this."

Mason patted his pockets. "Dude! Give me my money back!"

The son of Mercury smirked and tossed it back to him. "Ok, let's go."

"I still think we should have gone to 7-11," Char complained as they walked through the town. "They have the best slushies."

"We just need food and some extra clothes wouldn't hurt either," the daughter of Jupiter told them.

Char smiled innocently. "That's why I packed both the red and white top. CAUSE NOW I DON'T HAVE TO BUY ANYTHING!"

Charlotte rolled her eyes.

As they made their way down the tourist filled roads, Liam suddenly came to a stop, causing Charlotte to run into him.

"What...is that?" he asked, pointing down an alley to his left.

Charlotte paused and squinted her eyes, noticing a large shape standing in the middle of the darkened path.

It looked almost like a cow, though it had dark grey fur and glowing green eyes, covered up by its hair and kept its gaze pinned on the floor.

Its stench was almost as bad as the rat filled sewers back at camp.

The four of them slowly approached it, but they kept their distance.

"It...looks somewhat harmless," the daughter of Jupiter observed.

"It's kinda cute," Char said walking up to it.

"Char, wait!" Mason ran to grab her arm, but it was too late.

The daughter of Apollo's leg caught a tangle of green roots in front of the monster and it instantly growled at her.

The horrifying cow looked up, baring its teeth and spraying a fume of bright green mist.

Char instantly stiffened, collapsing to the floor, and Mason wasn't long after she did.

"Char!" she screamed. "Mason!"

They two demigods lay below the monster.

"What in the gods' names-" Liam started, but was cut off as the dark green roots slithered towards him.

He and Charlotte backed up instinctively as more waves of roots crawled towards them.

"Liam, distract it for me," she told him as she unsheathed her sword.

It's only one poisonous cow, she told herself. We can do this.

The son of Mercury nodded and the two of them charged down the alley, doing their best to avoid the snake-like roots.

The monster met Charlotte's eyes and she instantly felt nauseous.

"Don't look at it's-" she tried, though a snake root suddenly caught her ankle.

"Charlotte!" Liam yelled, running back.

Charlotte grunted as she hit the floor, her ankle tightly gripped by the plant. Electricity sparked through her free hand and she grabbed the root. While the plant gave her a burning sensation across her palm, it instantly let go of her.

Liam helped her stand. "Are you ok?"

"Yeah," she managed, hiding her hand. "Don't touch the roots and don't meet the monster's eyes."

The cow suddenly charged them, jumping over Char and Mason who were still lying on the floor.

She prayed to the gods that they were still alive.

The gears in Charlotte's head started turning. "Liam, run."

"What?"

"Trust me. I have a plan."

He nodded and bolted away from the creature.

Charlotte braced herself and flew into the air, straight above the monster.

Like she had planned, the cow continued to follow Liam.

The daughter of Jupiter held her breath and dove down, driving her golden sword into the monster's back.

It wailed, instantly dissolving into yellow powder, and the roots sank back into the ground.

Liam sighed in relief and they ran over to Char and Mason.

Charlotte rolled her best friend over, and as soon as she did, she received a large pain of guilt in her stomach.

Char's face had gone as pale as the moon, tinted with a light green color.

Mason looked the exact same.

"Gods," Liam breathed. "They're still alive, but barely. What do we do now?"
Charlotte's eyes watered up. She had no idea.

Suddenly, a deep voice behind them spoke, "Perhaps I can help."
