Mason | "Death is on my ship...why?"

Mason was terrified of Nico di Angelo. The kid radiated death all around him.

As much as he did not want to invite the son of Hades onto his ship, he did not have much of a choice.

Liam had let him sleep in his cabin for the day, which surprised him even more. The last thing Mason would want is the son of the ruler of the Underworld sleeping in his bed.

Ok that sounds wrong but just go with it.

As for Mason's own health, he felt like he could run a mile.

The only thing that he remembered was trying to keep Char away from the weird cow thing, then, everything was black and all he could feel was complete nausea and feeling like he wanted to go die in a hole.

He heard whispers of a mythical bird, but he had no clue what that meant.

Char apparently felt the same.

She told Mason that she felt like she was dying and wanted to just give up.

Mason did not want to admit it, but the only thing that made him maintain hope was Char. He remembered the time when she kissed him on the cheek. Sure, it wasn't an actual kiss, but it was enough to make him feel like the happiest person in the world.

"How are you feeling, dude?" a voice snapped him out of his train of thought.

It was Liam Rodrigeuz.

Mason exhaled, keeping his grip on the helm of the ship. "Honestly, like I could do anything. I feel practically revived."

Liam smirked. "Well you practically were."

"Shut up." Mason glanced at the deck below.

Char and Charlotte were talking about who-knows-what.

"So," the son of Mercury started. "How was your time alone with Char?"

Mason's face went hot. "I hate you."

His best friend snickered. "You're glad that happened and you know it."

He saw Char make giant gestures with her arms as if she was trying to explain something, and Charlotte was just laughing as if it made no sense.

Mason sighed. "Fine. I guess I owe you one, but it's not like it's official or anything."

"Yeah," Liam admitted. "But it's a step."

"Well what about you?" he asked, trying to change the subject.

"What do you mean?"

"You and Charlotte."

"No," Liam instantly said, becoming defensive. "I'm working on it. Thanks, but I don't really want help yet. Besides, she has bigger problems."

Mason looked down. "Oh yeah. The prophecy."

Genuinely, the son of Vulcan was terrified. Charlotte was almost like a sister to him and he did not want anything to happen to her.

"Dude, I don't know what to do," Liam sighed sadly. "I want everyone to come back to camp and I'll do anything to make sure of it."

"Me too."

The son of Mercury looked at the clouds helplessly.

Mason did not even want to imagine being in Liam's or Charlotte's positions.

Liam loved Charlotte, but she was not destined to make it back alive. The thought of the daughter of Jupiter dying was horrifying itself.

"Bro, look." Mason put a hand on his best friend's shoulder while keeping the other one on the helm. "We're going to bring everyone back alive."

He noticed Charlotte walking below deck and Char laying down in one of the four hammocks that Mason had made.

Liam nodded and straightened up. "Yeah," he shook his head, trying to clear it. "I don't know what I was thinking. Of course we will. Thanks. Wake me up if anything happens."

With that, he watched the son of Mercury saunter over to another hammock and lay down, most likely falling asleep the second that his head hit the pillow.

Mason stared at the horizon, which was starting to turn a cozy shade of orange.

One way or another, he thought. We are all getting through this.
