Sams P.O.V:

Maddie exited the holographic chamber with her arms wrapped protectively around her torso, shaking like a malnourished puppy. Her eyes met mine, and I could feel the anxiety radiating off her. Maddie was terrified of what happened.

The seat squeaked as she took a seat, her leg instantly bouncing up and down. Bruce worked at his station, Tony moving over to the device they created.

A blue hue spread in front of us, whirring and clicking sounds fill the room as graphs and numbers floated mid air. Maddie shifted nervously in her seat, twiddling her thumbs.

Placing my hand over hers, Maddie let out a large breath of air. "Alright, now do we want to see Maddie's results or get miss ice queen tested and deliver the news together?" Tony asked, raising an eyebrow as his eyes flickering between us.

Tuning to look at Maddie, her eyes were already set on me. She gives a slight nod, her eyes glossing over as she recounts her encounter. "Together."

Tony nods and I push my chair out from underneath me, eager to get this over with. I clench and unclench my fists as the anxiety bubbles up, making my throat feel like it was being choked, suffocated.

"Okay lets get started then." Tony claps his hands together, rubbing them like an evil scientist. "Big boy, hook her up, I'll get the chamber set for destruction." Tony spoke the last word in a deep, throaty voice as if trying to scare me away.

In return, he received a raised eyebrow and an unamused face from Maddie. "No? Tough crowd." He muttered.

Bruce took over, placing cold patches and wires along my neck and face, hands and chest. Tony walked away, punching numbers into the glass chamber.

Bruce's little device beeped, before he placed another pad on over my heart and pulse points. His soft hands brushed against my exposed skin, and I couldn't help but ache for Buckys touch.

I felt the patch hum against my heart, a cold surge filling my body with goosebumps. It was comforting in a way. "These will give us the readings we need, nothing special."

Looking down at the patch in curiosity, I was met with a soft blue glow emitting from the small wired patch. It was like a firework, fleeing out spurts of light blue.

"Why does it go colourful whenever it touches skin?" I rubbed my hand across it, feeling the cool material beneath my fingertips. "I programmed it so we could have a cute little decoration."

I rolled my eyes at Tonys comment, walking over to him by the glass chamber. It looked so much bigger when you were closer, almost taunting me with my small build.

"It gives us a colour so we can get a base idea of your power. Notice how Maddie's went a dark orange? Her powers are fire. Yours pulsed a blue, you have ice and water powers. Make the connections honey." Tony clicked his tongue.

He gave my shoulder a push as the chambers door whooshed open. "Have a fun time, kid." The door slid closed behind me, the room turning dark and cool.

The air felt frost, congested. My senses felt heightened as the room remained deathly silent, I could almost hear my own heartbeat. My breath came out in short, shallow breaths as I prepared myself.

Then it appeared.

The hologram whirred as it moved, holding an axe above its head as it sped towards me. A small, sloshing bucket sat in the corner of the room, water brimming the edge. I didn't want to use it yet, nothing like warming up, right?

The holograms movements were stoic and slow. I used my momentum against him, grasping his wrist and twisting it to an ungodly angle before turning and sweeping its legs out from under it. It fell to the ground soundlessly.
