Girl Code #1: never date your friends ex or someone they are really into

"What ever happened to love?" Veronica says plopping back onto my bed.
"Maybe this is all for the best, V" I say swiveling in my chair. We're supposed to be studying but of course we aren't. Ever since she broke up with Jughead, that's all the topic at hand.
"How is this for the best, B?" She groans shoving a pillow over her face. She suddenly snaps back up and looks straight at me.
"What?" I say looking away, she's starting to scare me
"Has he said anything to you?" She looks at me hopeful
"Veronica" I scold her "I told you I'm not picking sides and I'm not getting involved"
"But your my best friend, Betty. Please you gotta tell me." I shallow feeling in my throat.
"V I can't be in the middle of this" I tell her my voice calm.
"You know what I saw today?" She says bitterly. I shrugs to let her continue. " I saw Toni and Jughead together, she was all over him. What ever happened to loyalty, to the girl code" she pouts.
"They are serpents together" I reason
"She's probably trying to sleep with him"
"V let's study" I say trying to get her back on track.
"Yeah yeah" she says rolling over and sitting up.

The next day
"So did you and Veronica get some studying in last night" my mom says looking at me cutting her eyes.
I don't really think she likes Veronica and I don't wanna give her another reason to dislike her.
"Yeah we did" I say as I take a drink of my juice.
"Good, is Jughead coming to pick you up soon?" She ask staring at the clock. Just on queue, a knock on the door.
"I guess he's here, Bye mom love you" I yell grabbing my stuff and running out the door. Once I'm outside, I realize it's cold. Damn I forgot my jacket.
"Betty Cooper did you forgot your jacket?" Jughead says.
"Maybe but I'm not going back" I say looking at him. I smile seeing his beanie, he's worn that thing ever since I first gave it to him. That's was years ago now
"Well i can't let you freeze" he says with his jacket already off. He wraps it around my shoulders and I pull it's closer to me. He grabs my hand and we run to his car. It's weird cause I have my own car but he picks me up everyday, not that i mind.

At school
"Jug, can I ask you something?" I say as we pull up.
"What's up Betts?" He says sending shiver down my back. I love that he calls me that, he's called me that since we were young. One time, another boy caught on and started calling me that, Jughead yelled at him on the playground.
"Are you and Toni like together?" I ask, he looks at me bewildered. Clearly shocked
"Betts no, why?"
"Because Veronica-" I stop myself, I said I wouldn't take a side.
"Betts, even if I was, you would be the first person I told" he says "besides, I'm not gonna live my life by Veronica"
"Yeah, your right" I say, climbing out of the car.

And I loo back at him, giving him a small smile. I continue walking off as he joins the serpents.
I sigh walking in the school. God I love Jughead but sometimes he can really get on my nerves
