Rising from her bed, Dylan noticed it was 8am meaning she only got less than four hours of sleep. She had till 9 to walk to work and rushed to grab a clean outfit and throw her hair up into a small ponytail.

Rushing off down the road she neared her job. A small coffee shop, named Wide Awake Cafe, which was connected to a small day care next door. Her co-worker, Dean, chuckled at her tired appearance and threw her an apron.

"Shoot, I knew I forgot something!" She threw on the apron and made a note to give it back at the end of her shift.

"You're lucky I'm working today. Allison would've had your ass if you were late."

They laughed together before the bell above the mahogany door rang. Dean gave her a nod to signify she was on the clock.

"Hello, what can I do for you today?" She asked as she looked down at the computer.

This happened for the next two hours as customers came in and dropped off their children next door.

Soon enough, lunch rolled around and Dylan went on break, getting a deli sandwich and sitting in a booth. She watched people come and go with her headphones in before getting back to work.

The cafe stayed open every day from 6:30 am to 1am. Dylan would come in almost everyday even if she wasn't working. Today, she was staying till closing and just decided to stay till her morning shift. Dean left her with the key and told her to close up when she was finished serving the last people.

Around 12 a group of boys walked in and ordered what she assumed to be their dinner. She made sure to note that they closed in an hour and to be kind to the last people.

The boys were very talkative and didn't seem to want anything else so Dylan put her headphones in and began sweeping. She could hear the slightest bit of their conversation after every sweep.

"Dare—put—number—to her."

Was the only words she could catch before going to count the register and pay for her own cup of coffee as she felt the need to. The smell of vanilla and cream swarmed the area as she smiled and hummed to herself.

A tap on her shoulder awoke her from a daze as she turned carefully.

"Um, I just wanted to say thank you. Thanks for the dinner and staying open past time for us." A tall brunette man stood before me blushing and muttering thanks.

I grinned back meekly and replied, "it's no problem, feel free to stop by anytime." She could hear his friends giggling and poking fun at the boy before he shushed them and pushed them out.

She watched them walk out and down the street before going to clean off their table. If she would have paid more attention she would have noticed a phone number written on the top paper on the napkin dispenser. The napkin would be their till morning when someone would most likely use it.

Instead, she wiped the tables and promised herself to mop when it got closer to opening. For now, she would lock up and go for a walk.

Her watch read 2:47 am as she made her way down the sidewalk and towards the pier. Watching the waves crash against the wooden dock she sang softly to herself. Footsteps passed her every so often as business men went to work at the early hour.

As time drew closer to 6 couples, young and old, would pass watching the girl sing and giving her slight praise.

Her phone buzzed notifying her it was 6:10, giving her enough time to walk back to the cafe and mop the floors to open.

The building smelled of cinnamon and black coffee. She was opening alone this morning as Dean was off and Allison was ill at home. Her first customers didn't come in till about 6:45 and she greeted them happily sipping on her own coffee when she had time.

The constant chime of the door made her even happier to see business was good, this place was her get away from the drab flat downtown.

Taking orders and cleaning spills every now and then the door connecting to the day care cracked open and Carson poked his head in.

"Pssst! Psst! Dyl! I need your help! Enid flaked on me and now I'm stuck watching Bri all day!"

Dylan giggled and told him to let her come sit in the shop.  Carson thanked her and sent Bri over so he could go on break.

Bri smiled at Dylan and sat behind the counter handing her things when needed.

The shop got less busy around 8 as a young couple came in and sat in the corner after ordering just as the boys had done last night.

Bulletproof by La Roux played over the cafes speakers as the counterpart of the girl came up to hand me the napkin.

"I believe someone left this for you." She chuckled and walked back over to her partner.

She set the napkin aside and noticed a number on it along with the name George scribbled along the side.

Smiling to herself at the napkin she wondered which one of the people from yesterday had left it.
