I won't be able to update as much as I would like to because I have a full time apprentice job but I will upload as much as I possible can😊
(Valentiago is Val from the last chapter)

POV. Valentiago
"Val!" Leo shouts from the front door. "Pack security is here!" I turn away, quickly slipping the locket in my pocket. They don't need to know about that.

"Coming," I call. Here's the thing, Leo doesn't deal
well with the higher ranked wolves because he's technically a hidden alpha and for good reason too.

"Good evening Valentiago," James, the Beta, announces. "Sorry for coming for these particular circumstances." I sigh, silently agreeing. Leo's anger shifts up another notch and I scratch my neck, bristling.

"Leo, you want to go have a shower, I'll handle it from here, okay?" Looking him in the eye, he then gazes over at me and nods, dashing off up the stairs.
"He's had a tough week," I explain as an excuse and they buy it. Phew.

"Mind if we take a look?" He asks and I nod, signalling them to follow me.
The kitchen lights are still on full blare but I turned off the cupboard one because, well, didn't want to see that again.

"Oh damn," one of the security guys wince. "That— smell!" It does stink now that I think about it. A wet dog sort of smell and then also, slight human smell and very strong tea smell from where the tea bags are.

I switch the light on and they all stare, at the wolf slaughtered in the middle of the floor. We all know this man, we all know.

"Damien is going to go batshit," one of them whispers. "How could this happen though, he's the best fighter!" It hadn't had meant to be heard by everyone but it had. And everyone agreed with the statement. "Was the best fighter," she adds aloud.
"Val?" James asks. Everyone goes to look at me.
"No, I had nothing to do with this, no matter how much I hated him," I fire back. We still had a sort of connection that I am going to grieve. No one knew me quite like him.

"I was just going through everyone I have to ask, all the possibilities, I knew it wouldn't have been you but I have to ask questions, okay?" He explains and I nod, realising it wasn't personal. Hey, relatives kill each all the time, specially more so in wolf packs, it's not uncommon so even more right to ask that question.

"We need an alibi though," he says and I nod.

"We didn't come back until about 20 minutes ago and then we tried to find the tea and it was all here, then we called you guys. We have a ring doorbell to show what time we came back if you would like?" He nods and goes to say something but I cut him off. "I- oh no, what if the person who did it is still here?"

One of the guys shakes his head, "we checked the perimeter before we came in and we had someone check through your house using heat sensor cameras. There's just the two of you, right?" I nod and his shoulders relax.

"There's a lot of tea here, does that mask the smell, could he have been dead for days?" I ask, because I can only just start smelling the dead wolf smell.

"I'm believing to suspect that," James replies, only now noticing the tea on the ceiling as well as the tea around the wolf.

It almost looks like a witches doing, but no witch is strong enough to do any of this. The one thing the gods gave wolfs, is power against the witches, even they didn't like the witches.

We are immune to any disease witches start, and any of their powers or spells or anything. They don't work on us, pure bloods anyways. The half breeds, not so much but they only become a little weaker after each attack from a witch.

"Not a witches doing," Tony, one of the older security guards I've had the most interactions with, says, voicing my thoughts.
"Nor vampire, nor faerie, none of the magical lot. I think it's something more dark and sinister than that. Something we probably haven't seen in a while."

Tony confuses me, partly because he knows so much about the past and partly about his knowledge on all the magical beings. I doubt there's anything he doesn't know.

"So not another wolf?" I ask, wincing. If so, they're by the far the strongest wolf in the pack, and maybe the whole region. He turns his head to the side contemplating.

"If so, we're all dead, if not, I'm wondering what else can create this much mess and carnage," he informs us.

"I think we'll be expecting more murders in the future though, and maybe quite soon. There's been rumours of deaths that have been unexplained by the other small packs in the area, James. The elders didn't want to let the others know until it is a worry. I think we can all worry now."
