For a regular family, you would think that if their daughter who had just been out on a deadly walk comes back, there would be a big Welcome back party with all her friends and her parents' friends celebrating her return, like, in the story of The Prodigal Son after he'd come back from spending all of his ingeritance by gambling and partying and all sorts of prodigal doings.
But apparently for me, I wasn't in a regular 'mortal' family. So no "Welcome back, Diana, "we missed you," "we are so glad to see you alive."
Instead, what I got was twice a dozen faces all glaring at me like I had just interrupted an incredibly fun game of charades.When Luke and I entered the rec room where all the camp councilors and the senior camp councilors along with the camp director are meeting, everybody stared at me either like I had dirt on my shirt or I had just killed someone.
When I looked down I realized that I did have dirt on my shirt, in fact my whole blue tie-dyed shirt was still tattered and beaten and looked like a rag and I actually have just come back from killing monsters.
I looked up at the people sitting over by the pingpong table which had acted as the council table for years.
Uncle Will told me that they'd originally planned in all of seventeen years to get a proper long table in here for council meetings, but somehow something always got in the way and so they never have changed it till now.
My eyes automatically darted to the centre of the table where my parents were seating.
My dad had a calm look on his face, which I had only recently realized that meant he's either really, really trying to stay calm or either he really doesn't have any idea about what is going on around him. My mom often hit him in the gut for being clueless eighty percent of the time and called him Seaweed Brain.
Right now, I could only hope that the look on my dad's green eyes are a look of cluelessness. Otherwise, it would be really bad if he was just trying to keep calm and was actually thinking of ways to punish his daughter for going on a rebel streak.On the other hand, my mom is staring intently at me with those stormy-gray eyes that only sent one message: you are dead, young lady.
"Hey, guys." Luke managed to blurt awkwardly.
Everyone studied us silently as we walked toward the empty seats on my dad's right.
I sat next to him and Luke sat in between me and cabin one's head councilor, Tristan Grace and to his other end sat his mother, Piper McLean-Grace.
Soon as we're seated, Chiron, the camp director (they said there used to be another director. Dionysus, the wine dude-but don't tell him I called him that. He hated being referred to as the wine dude. Or so they tell me. He used to be the camp director because it was a punishment from Zeus. But somehow, it was all resolved and been removed and so he returned back to Mount Olympus) who was seating at the other end of the table started speaking.
He looks perfectly human from the waist up, wearing a white shirt under a black vest and seating on a wheelchair with a blanket covering his legs and feet but in reality his lower part is that of a body of a horse. Chiron, simply put, is a centaur and he had been the camp director ever since. Also, he's my favorite archery teacher."This year as you all have observed, our satyrs have found a rather quite extraordinary amount of demigods than usual," Chiron stated. "Their numbers had affected the camp's capacity to hold more of them."
"Yes, our cabin which had always been spacious is finding it hard to accept any more newcomers." Nishan Tanaka said, head councilor of the Aphrodite cabin.
"Which is why, we are all here today to strategise a way for our our camp to expand, and/or add or renovate more buildings." Chiron answered. "Because not only were there more demigods, but also the amount of legacies from camp Jupiter, the sons and daughters of previous Greek demigods who'd resided in New Rome are now sending their kids who are in the right age to be here to get proper training."
I hadn't realized that I was so nervous to come here and anxious that I would get a rather great scolding from Chiron and my parents, that I didn't notice my heart was pounding so fast. But when I realized that the council was talking about other matters, I only remembered one thing to do;
