The Big House was filled with tension for a few silent minutes. No one was saying a word, even Chiron who had the right words for these kind of conversations.
The air felt electric, but there was also a bit of worry and sadness around everyone.

zap!

I thought for a moment that I felt the tension coming from the room, singeing the hairs on my neck. But then a few seconds more and my left hand which was dangling freely on my side got a slight current of electricity.
I winced almost loudly but I remembered I was eavesdropping so I bit my lip. I turned back around and saw Beck standing alongside Tristan Grace over by the volleyball courts, watching me as they snicker.

Electricity. Of course. And here I thought I actually felt the tension inside. Silly me.

I heard a commotion inside, people were starting to walk towards the door so I quickly ran off towards the direction of Beck and Tristan who also saw the movement inside and quickly ran off up to the pavilion.
I ran closely behind them, scowling and thinking of ways to hold both their heads and slam it onto one another.

We were all huffing and puffing when we got to the commons area, fortunately without getting caught by anyone. Most cabins are empty by now but there are still some that held a few campers who'd be staying all-year-round. Some were still busy packing, and some were just saying goodbye to their friends.
When I sat up, both boys were still laughing at me.

"Busted," Tristan spat.

Tristan Grace is two years older than me but I was an inch taller. He was leaner, though, which he always used to intimidate me but it never worked. When you grow up with someone, you learn their weaknesses. Tristan's is that I know he's inlove with Bianca but he can never confess to her because she makes him weak on the knees. Literally and figuratively. Bianca is tougher than me, a bit bigger, burlier and great at trash talk. Yep, your typical Roman demigod crush.

"You've been caught eavesdropping," Beck said. Tristan nodded as an agreement to what Beck said.

"Well, what about you? What were you two doing there?" I asked, raising a brow.

They looked at each other and snickered. It was always this, whenever they were together, they bullied me.

"We were supposed to eavesdrop too, but you got there first," Tristan said, bobbing his messy golden-brown hair to the side.

"Aha!-"

"But since we caught you, we might tell on you for doing so. You know how the adults don't like when we listen to their adult conversations," Beck emphasised on the word 'adult.'

"How did you guys know they were taking about important matters anyway?"

Both boys looked clean and dressed up to go. They were both wearing jeans and tie-dyed shirts, they're clay bead necklaces hanged around their necks. I'm guessing our parents arranged all of us to go home at the same time. Explains why uncle Jason was here.

"You know how they are," Tristan said matter-of-factly. "If they're in the Big House, then it's important."

I rolled my eyes and pushed past them. I can't believe I'm still talking to these idiots.
They ran up to follow me, discussing what the adults could have talked about.

"It can't just be about camp construction," Tristan countered.

"Maybe it is," I said.

They both stopped and eyed me suspiciously. Just then, Luke came running towards us from the Athena cabin, calling our names.

"Luke, did you hear?" Tristan asked when he came beside us.

He looked at us confusedly. "Heard what?"

"Nothing," I interrupted Beck quickly and grabbed Luke.

"We've still got to pack, okay? We'll see you later," I said and then ran off with Luke in tow.

I don't know why, but I felt embarrassed about telling them that our parents were worried about me. That they're scared something might happen, or I might do something. I just can't bare to tell them that. I trust both of them enough, but not for this.

By the time we finished packing and were ready to go, we all said goodbye to Chiron who looked like he hasn't aged at all, despite the stress he'd had this summer. He fixed my parents a knowing look and then patted my head. I tried not to look like I understood what that look meant, so I wouldn't seem like I had totally eavesdropped on them.

We rode a white van that was parked just below half-blood hill. The van had Delphi Strawberry Service written on the sides, which was the cover name for Camp Half-Blood's business. Chiron had prepared it for us, and Argus, our many-eyed security would be driving us all the way to Camp Jupiter.

Soon enough we were driving out of Long Island and into the city before we bounded off for New Rome.
