"But if someone comes at us, this time I'm ready."

Andy's pov
When Robert and I had told the team that we are married, I expected them to be supportive and happy for us. Sure, they were bound to have questions and be a bit confused at first, but I thought after that passed, everything would be fine. What I didn't expect was for them to look at us with such hatred and disgust in their eyes, and say some of the things they said. Things like we should never of gotten married. We should've had the respect to tell them rather than going behind their backs. We shouldn't be together because Robert is the battalion chief and I'm just a lieutenant. Why would we even want to get married? We're nothing alike. But all of those things were wrong. And they were all things I never expected my team, my family, to say.
As Robert and I walked into the station hand in hand, everyone turned to look at us. They didn't say anything, they just stared. And then they turned and walked out of the room.
"Guys wait!" I shouted after them, but nobody did. Robert saw how upset I was, and tried to comfort me. He put his arms around me and pulled me closer.
"It won't be like this forever. They'll realise how much we love each other, and they'll realise that they had no right to react like this," he whispered into my ear.
"Thank you," I whispered back. "For everything. For staying even though the team hate us." He pressed a kiss to the top of my head.
"Andy look at me," he said, so I tilted my head up until my eyes met his. "I love you, more than anyone or anything else. I will never, and I mean never, leave you."
"Promise?" I asked.
"I promise," he answered, his voice steady and sure.
"I love you," I told him, and I meant it with every piece of me.
"I love you too," he said. I stood one my tiptoes and kissed him. We were only kissing for a few seconds before I heard someone scoffing behind us. I turned in Robert's arms to see the whole team stood in the doorway.
"Do you mind not doing that here? None of want to see that," Jack said, his voice harsh and unkind. I grabbed Robert's hand, gathering up as much courage as possible before I spoke.
"I've had enough of this. You guys have been acting like this for days now. You had no right to react the way you did, or to say the things you said about Robert and I. Can't you see that we're happy together? We love each other, we're in love. Why can't you guys just be happy for us?" I said, my voice breaking slightly at the end as a few tears rolled down my face. Robert squeezed my hand again, and gave me a slight smile, silently telling me that he is proud of me for speaking up.
"I'm sorry, you're right, we should never of reacted like that. Andy, I'm so sorry," Maya apologised and everyone else nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, I'm sorry too, I'm glad you guys are happy together," Vic added. After everyone had apologised, we all stood there in an awkward silence.
"How about we all go to Joes after shift, first rounds on me?" Ben suggested.
"Sure," I said, after looking at Robert for confirmation. He never usually came to the bar with the team, but recently he had been making more of an effort to do things with us.
*after shift*
When Robert and I walked into Joes bar, the rest of the team was already there. We slid into the booth next to them, but I still didn't let go of Robert's hand. I knew that the team had apologised and said they were fine with us now, but I was still a bit nervous.
"Hey guys," Robert greeted everyone, and I smiled. After a while, the conversation somehow shifted to us.
"So, um, what was the wedding like?" Ben asked, and I smiled at the memory.
"It was perfect. It was small, and simple, but everything about it was perfect. There was just Robert, my dad and me there, but that was all we needed," I said, and the smile never left my face.
"Mm it was indeed perfect. And Andy here was perfect too. She was wearing a long, light pink dress, and she looked perfect. Oh and the most perfect thing about her that day was her smile, the way her eyes lit up, she's gorgeous," Robert said, and it was like we forgot that we were sat in a crowded bar with our team. It was like we were back inside city hall, lost in each other's eyes, saying I do.
"Do you have any photos?" Vic asked, snapping me out of my thoughts. Robert nodded and showed everyone his lock screen on his phone. It was one of the few photos we had of the actual wedding. We were stood at the altar, holding hands, staring into each other's eyes. I love that photo, I love everything about the day it was taken.
"Awww that's so cute," Maya said, and everyone nodded in agreement. We spent the rest of the night laughing and talking about anything and everything. I had spent many nights at Joes bar with the team, but this was by far the best. Because my husband is here, by my side.
