"Dave," whispered Link. "go get them. I'll cover you out here."

Dave nodded and shoved through the door

"Enough!" Dave yelled. "What have they done?! let them go!"

Dave began to run at the man

"You expect me to just let th-" the man was cut off.

Dave had put all the force he possibly could into the man who threatened his friends and family. They both fell to the floor. The man tried to get up, but Dave did everything he could to make sure he stayed down.

First he kicked the back of his knee, knocking him onto his hands. Then he grabbed his ankle, knocking him back into his knees. Quickly, Dave stood up and kicked him hard in the gut.

"I said leave them alone. Now tell me, how does it feel to be the one on the ground?! from now on, you're gonna listen to my command. You wanna hurt my people? i'll make sure they have a fighting chance. Stay down if you know what's best for yourself."said Dave in retaliation

Dave's anger grew steadily. The man laid there on the ground. Quivering in fear. Dave turned around to see how Link was doing with his struggles. He couldn't see him.
He began to walk to the hallway.

He no longer could see Link. Where could be have gone? Dave paused for a second. His thoughts drowning out the world around him. He started to take small steps towards the place he last saw Link.

A commotion was beginning to rise decibels behind him. He turned around to see what the problem was.. but it was already too late.

Somehow the man mustered up the strength to try fighting back. The silvery blade whisked by Dave's Face.

"Come on hero, let's settle this."

Dave didn't want to kill anyone!! He could kill a zombie, but not a human...

Again the blade swung around for Dave's face. It skimmed his cheek. Blood began to drip down his face.

Another lash of the hunting knife aimed for his head. This time he moved clear of of the way. the knife took a chunk out of the drywall where he had been standing moments before. This guy clearly wanted to kill him.

Down the hall Dave went to find his friend. The man didn't seem I be in a rush to catch up to them. This concerned Dave but he was in a mission to save Link. He turned left on the first corner in the hall to see Link finishing the final knot on the woman who almost gave them away when they first arrived.

"Stay there" said link.

Link and Dave ran to each other.

"Link, you have I help. The guys trying to kill me. Go make sure everyone is okay while I finish my fight with him. Got it?"

"Got it."

They both nodded and began to run down the hall. 'Where did he go?!'

They ran into the gym. The doors shut behind them. 'Shit! a trap?!'

"This ends now" said the man standing by the door now. He held Rebecca in his arms with the knife to her neck.

"Wait..." said Dave. "This is between us. Why are you doing this? we could offer you supplies."

"I don't need supplies. Besides, you started this. It has to end." Said the man

Dave put down his weapons. "Here. Peace."

"I don't think so. You know, how does it feel to be the one cowering? hmm?"

A loud shot could be heard from behind Dave. The man's face lost expression. He collapsed. Dave run over to catch Rebecca.

"Are you okay?!" asked Dave

"Just a bit shaken up. I'll be fine" replied Beck. Dave held her close, not wanting to let go.

"You're safe now. But we have to go. That shot is going to alert all the zombies in the area. We have to go. Link, go get the girl that's tied up. We have to go. Come on everyone, we're not going to die here." Said Dave

Everyone began to ready themselves for a quick evacuation.

"We're going to a remote part of town for now."

Everyone rushed to the vehicles. The sun was beginning to go down. The dog howled from the backseat. The arrangement of the vehicle changed now. Dave and Rebecca rode up front. In the back seat sat Link behind Dave, the dog in the middle, and a new stranger tied up in in the remaining seat.

Just as they pulled out the zombies began to chase them, however the cars were much faster. They drove away again.

Now the chain of cars had Dave in front, Link's family car in the middle, and the truck in the back.

"That didn't work out that well, did it.." said Link

A muffled "no shit" came from the stranger.

"Heh heh, I like your humor stranger. Say, why is her mouth still covered? Let her talk Link." Said Dave

Link took the cloth of from over her mouth.

"Gee, thanks" she said sarcastically

"What's your name?" asked Dave

"Y'know, I'm not too big on using my real name anymore, so call me Jay" she replied

"Well 'Jay', seeing as we just saved your life, it would appear that you're going to be accompanying us for a while. Does that sound alright?" said Link

"So long as you don't turn into cannibals and try to make me into a three course meal." Said Jay

"Idk about that. There's quite a few of us. You may not make more than 2 courses." Said link teasingly.

"At least you guys seem a hell of a lot better than Charles already. He was a psycho." Said Jay

"Is 'Charles' that man's name?" asked Rebecca.

"Yeah, it was. But hey, it's not all bad. I mean I'm not a zombie. " She replied sarcastically.

"Yeah, on the bright side, everyone's okay" said Link

"Speak for your own people! Charles was crazy, but he was my friend" Said Jay sounding quite upset.

"Everyone shut up! quit being so negative. It's not all that bad for us. Our group is okay, and now we have a new person to either pull their own weight or leave. And Jay, you have a bigger group to protect you. So quit being so upset. It's not all that bad." Said Rebecca.

The car sat silently. The only noise I be heard was the sleeping dog, and the engine.

They drove in search do a new home.
