A Golden Opportunity

Everyone packed the cars ready to head out. They had to hurry, or else the horde that had heard the gunshot would catch up to them.

They got in their cars and drove away, not sure where to look. They were planning to just drive until they found something that seemed nice. And safe. Very safe.

The car had an unsettling feeling. The broken spirits could be felt by all of them.

"Hey Link?" Said Dave with a raspy voice from exhaustion

"What?" Said Link

"Can you take over for me at the next refueling? I've been driving for hours" Said Dave "My eyes are starting to hurt"

"Sure no problem." Said Link.

Sure enough, at the rest stop, Dave and Rebecca switched to the back seats and Link and Jay took the front. Dave, finally trying to relax, ran his fingers through his hair. He could feel how his brown hair had became tangled, and growing longer again. It was very messy. And looking around the car, everyones hair was messy.

Link's curly black hair now seemed longer and untamed. And he couldn't say anything about Jay's hair. It was just beyond shoulder length and black, but rather unmatted and straight. Rebecca's hair... reguardless of being tangled and "messy", looked gorgeous. Dave began to whisper to Rebecca.

"You're hair looks beautiful, even through all of this" Whispered Dave.

Rebecca began to blush a little, letting out a gentle laugh, but it wasn't easy to see because the shadow of her beautiful dark brown hair had cast a shadow on her cheeks. But he could still see the smile on her face.

Rebecca's hand lay loosely on her side. Realizing this, Dave reached for her hand and held it. He took a moment to look into her brown eyes and seemed to just forget where he was for a few minutes.

The car drove quietly into the night. Link looked back about an hour later to see Dave and Rebecca had fallen asleep practically cuddling. Link cracked a smile and glance over at Jay.

"So, uh, W-what's your story? H-how did you end up with us?" Link Said, his nervous stutter easily noticeable.

"Well I was abandoned by my family who thought that I would weight them down and make it harder to protect my little sister. So they left me and I was all alone to fend for myself. And after 2 days or so, I met with the big guy. He took me under his wing. He showed me how to defend myself, but apparently I wasn't good enough for a propper functioning human, because not even a week later you guys showed up and you had me tied up within 15 minutes. And I think you know the rest from there... I miss that big asshole.." Replied Jay.

"Wow.. That really sucks. I'm sorry..."

"Don't worry about it too much, it's the past"

"Well alright. So what's your real name?"

"What do you mean?"

"Well I never asked you. And I know it isn't really Jay, You told us that  when we met you."

"I'd prefer not to say my name. Don't want you to get to attached, that way I won't get attatched too..."

"Nobody else will hear, please?"

"Jennifer. Happy?"

"Yes, actually"

"Well I'm glad." Said Jenn Sarcastically

"I'll still call you Jay in front of the others."

"Thanks. So what about you?"

"What about me? You know my name."
