Soon, we were headed towards the fabled Siren Head Woods. I didn't know what I was thinking when I accepted the dare. Jack wasn't happy with me for doing that, "Millie, what were you thinking?!" "I don't know, I panicked," I relented. I had let my wild thoughts get the best of me. "Well your panicking got us into a monster hunt." he rolled his eyes. "I'm sorry," I told him honestly. "It's okay, but promise me you won't do anything stupid like this again." he told me. "Promise." I crossed my heart. "Before we possibly perish in the Siren Head Woods, do you wanna get pizza?" he asked with a smile. "Yes, pre-death pizza sounds like the best!" I laughed. Before our monster hunt, we went to Dominos to get pizza.
We were driving in silence for what seemed like an eternity. It was approaching midnight, and the woods were up ahead like a trap waiting to snap shut. Seeing that scenery was cool in horror movies, but seeing them in real life was unnerving. There were dead trees surrounding the forest like skeleton hands creeping up into the sky, and a fog enclosing it in an eerie cloak. I didn't know what to expect and that was my biggest fear; the unknown.
Jack got two heavy coats out of his truck and gave one of them to me so I wouldn't get cold. He also brought out flashlights to keep an eye out for any impending dangers. We wouldn't be staying the entire night thankfully so we didn't have to worry too much about shelter, after all it was just a quick hike through the woods.
"Ready?" I asked Jack. He held onto his flashlight like a weapon ready to defend himself. "Ready." he stammered in fear. We joined hands and walked into the woods...
We didn't let go of each others' hands the entire time we were hiking, because we wanted to stay together. The silence was deafening and the creatures that roamed through the night seemed to taunt us by the way they were making noises. "You okay?" Jack whispered. "Yeah, are you?" I whispered back. "Yeah, because I'm with you." he said. I was grateful for the dark so he couldn't see me blushing. I held onto his hand so he wouldn't break away from me.
The air around us seemed to grow colder the deeper we went into the woods. We pointed our flashlights at anything that moved or made a noise. "Jack," I whispered to make sure he was still there. "HELP ME!!!!" a voice shrieked in the distance. We screamed in terror at the sudden noise.
