Millie: The Weird Girl

      "You're reading that again?" Jack raised an eyebrow at me while we were browsing in the school library. I had just picked up the well worn copy of Monsters in My City;   This was one of my all time favorite books to read, because it had legends of monsters like Bigfoot, Moth-man, Goat-man, and the one I wanted to find the most was Siren Head. I raised an eyebrow, "Are you judging me?" "No, but wouldn't you want to read other books? You've read that at least twenty times." he reminded me.  I chuckled, "And it always gets more interesting every time." I opened the book and skimmed through the pages in excitement. "There's stuff in here that people don't know about because they're too scared of the unknown!" I felt like a kid in a candy store every time I read this book. "Because that stuff is weird to some people." Jack reminded me again. "True." I shrugged putting the book back in my black book bag. 

  Jack and I walked to our next class after the library. "So, are you going to Brittany's party tonight?" he was a little too hopeful in his question. Brittany McDonald was my best friend in the second grade and then she became popular and we have been growing apart ever since. Which is heartbreaking enough when she now hangs out with the girls that would make fun of us in middle school, but I had Jack and he was enough for me. "I'll go if you go." I answered. "Are you going to hang onto what happened six years ago?" he asked sadly. "It's kinda hard that someone from second grade now hates me." I replied fiddling with my black jean jacket. "She doesn't hate you, she just decided to join the world of Barbies." he put his arm around me and patted my shoulder. I smiled thankfully, "Thanks Jack. You're sweet for being friends with the weird girl." "Millie, you're not weird. You're more interesting than every girl at this school." he replied. "You just keep getting sweeter." I hugged him. I was grateful he was my best friend.
