There is a panic attack in this chapter

Although he would never admit it, Tooru Oikawa was depressed. Sure, the people around him knew deep down he was slowly losing it. The longer you go without your soulmate without knowing them, the more you start to lose yourself. He was spiraling, and it wouldn't be too long before he lost himself, he knew this but he decided to keep lying in hopes to not lose anyone in the process of his spiraling.

One particular day, about a week ago to be specific, the coach called over Oikawa after practice to sit down and have a talk with him. Honestly, he had been expecting this chat for some time now and sighed as he sat down.

"Are you okay Oikawa? Like honestly okay?" Oikawa snapped his head up and looked at his coach as if the conversation wasn't going as he thought it would. He wipes the shocked look off his face and scratches the back of his neck.

"Ha, I'm fine coach, what makes you thin-"

"Cut the bullshit Tooru, I've known you before you came to Seijoh, I can see past your little façade that you put up. I will ask you one more time, and I expect an honest answer, are you okay?"

This sent Oikawa over the edge and spilled everything he had been feeling, aside from the multiple panic attacks he had everything he sees his soulmate mark. He used to admire it when he was younger since it was a heart with a volleyball pattern on the inside. He assumed his soulmate loved volleyball as well and honestly was super excited.

But, as time went on, all of the volleyball events he'd been to, he hadn't met them yet, all he wants is to just find them and let himself be happy. If he didn't love volleyball as much as he did, he probably would've resented the sport for it.

His coach was speechless, he knew that Oikawa wasn't mentally okay, but he didn't think it was that bad.

"Oikawa....I'm sorry, I should've pushed you like that-" Oikawa held up his finger as if to shush him.

"It's..fine...it felt nice to let it out honestly, I'll be fine." He plasters on the fakest smile he could've ever made and made his way to the clubroom with the keys swinging around his finger.

His coach thought he was okay...

He was wrong.

Right as Oikawa got into the club room he slammed the door shut and slid down to the floor. He dropped the keys and clenched his fists so hard he could feel his nails digging into his palms. But, that was the least of his problems since his heart started pounding and his mouth felt extremely dry. He couldn't focus on anything around him, and as you could guess, that terrified him anymore. Tears spilled all around him and he was shaking on the floor.

No one to help him.

No one to save him from himself.

Once the hyperventilating started he passed out as the stress was too much.

-----------------

He woke up at around midnight very disoriented and realized what had happened. He shakily got up and slowly made his way to his locker and grabbed his bag. Every time he had a severe attack like that he would always be extremely tired and out of it, usually, Iwaizumi would try and help the best he could, but Oikawa couldn't ask him to do that in the middle of the night.

He checked his phone to see no notifications, 'what a surprise. He laughed tiredly and made his way back home. He put his headphones in and played a comfort song that helped him feel better, although it was sad it helped nonetheless.

"The summer after high school, when we first met, we'd make out in your Mustang to Radiohead" (teehee suffer jk jk)

He finally made it back after around a rough twenty minutes. The amount of drunk/high people he encountered on the way was an ungodly number. He unlocked the door with his key and turned the light on. The house was empty.

Again.

It didn't shock him though, he's used to coming home to an empty house. His parents were always abroad and didn't want to keep him constantly moving, so they paid the bills each month and left him tons of money each month to do what he pleases. Not so bad right? Wrong, he'd rather be poor around with people he loves, than being rich and alone.

He glanced at the fridge, debating if he wanted anything to eat. He shook his head no and decided that he would just sleep. Knowing that it was a terrible idea he flopped into his bed and didn't even turn his alarm on for school. He was skipping, and he didn't care.

That week was probably one of the worst of his life, until that following Tuesday. That morning was different, he woke up refreshed for once. He happily hummed a song to himself while he got ready. He had a slight skip in his step as he smiled. He was going to enjoy one of these good days as much as he could. He spotted Iwaizumi and ran up to him.

"Iwa-chan! Good morning!" Iwaizumi looked terrified. He hadn't heard that ridiculous nickname in forever.

"Goodmorning? Did your parents visit you or something?"

"Nope! Just felt good today!" Iwaizumi just stood there, surprised at how happy Oikawa genuinely was.

"I finally get to have a good day again!" Oikawa pulled Iwaizumi with him to change his shoes before they went inside.

"What time do we leave for Karasuno again?" Oikawa asked while they were changing shoes.

"After lunch, you know, you're the captain you should know." Iwaizumi scoffed but was happy that his friend seemed like his friend again.

Oikawa gasped dramatically.

"Mean Iwa-chan." He fake pouted and headed off to his first class.

"Must be the day where you meet your other half Tooru." Iwaizumi smiled before meeting up with his soulmate and walked her to class.

The bus ride was surprisingly quiet all the way to Karasuno. Oikawa had brought cards against humanity, but when everyone just wanted to sleep it's hard to play a game like that if you're tired and he put it away and put his headphones in, and let himself fall asleep with a slight smile on his face.

When the bus stopped, most people groaned and slowly got up and grabbed their things. Not Tooru Oikawa though, his soulmate mark was slightly warm, as if he was close. He quickly put his bag over his shoulder and headed out from the back of the bus.

Karasuno's team was waiting for them outside standing in a line. His mark was practically burning and he slapped his hand over it, trying to ease the pain. He looked around and noticed Karasuno's small redhead doing the same.

They both made direct eye contact, and it was as if...

Both of their troubles had floated away.
