-This is a soulmate au where people are born with a destined partner that "completes" them. But, we all know that there is no Utopia and that not everyone listens. People marry other people that aren't their soulmates out of spite, but none of these marriages typically last very long. Hinata's parents are a wonderful example of this. One more thing is that Hinata will be an only child since his parents aren't meant to be they don't want to bring another child into their mess.
Enjoy!-Octavia <3
Hinata opened his eyes to the sound of his alarm and sighed. He heard his parents fighting once again downstairs. He opted out of listening to them and headed to his bathroom to get ready for the day. After taking his shower, he got into his uniform and made sure everything was in there. He took a quick look in the mirror and headed down the stairs.
Once they heard their son coming down the stairs, his parents quit shouting at each other and went on to get ready for the day.
"Good morning Shoyo!" Hinata's mother greeted him and went over and hugged him. She handed him his breakfast bar he has in the morning and went into her room to get ready for work.
Hinata glanced at his father, who seemed exhausted.
"Is everything alright dad?" Hinata opened his breakfast bar.
"Oh Shoyo" His dad sighed.
"Nothing gets past you, huh?" He sat down and motioned for Hinata to do the same. Hinata sat down in his chair.
"We'll talk about it after your practice match today." His father looked down to the floor tiredly.
"You look exhausted...". Hinata looked at him with a slightly worried expression.
"I guess I am, huh?" He looked up towards his son and gave him a small smile.
"I'll be fine Shoyo."Hinata nodded slowly, not convinced at all. He finished off his breakfast and checked the time. He still had a little bit of time before he had to leave so he went up to his dad and hugged him tightly.
"Whatever it is, I hope it'll get better soon dad." His dad hugged him back.
"Thank you Sho, what did I do to deserve a son like you?" He patted Hinata's back a couple of times before letting go.
Hinata's usual positive energy was back.
"Guess you just got lucky." Hinata whipped his hair back dramatically.
This caused his dad to laugh loudly.
"Oh!" "Are you both going to be at the match today?" Hinata hoped they both could make it, it seemed unlikely but he still wanted them both to come.
"No, your mother can't, but as your number one fan, you bet your ass I'll be there." His dad proudly stood up.
Hinata laughed again and checked his phone for the time.
"Shoot I'm going to be late for practice!" He hurriedly put his shoes on and was about to run out the door.
His dad grabbed the keys to the car.
"It's my fault your late, I'll drive you today!" He was swinging the keys on his finger.
Hinata looked up with a smile.
"Thank you!" He rushed towards the car and got in the passenger's seat.
"I'll get you there in five minutes!" His dad exclaimed.
"Dad-"
"It takes me half an hour on bike, how are you going to get me there in five minutes?" Hinata deadpans."And quit speeding, if you get another ticket mom's going to yell at you again." Hinata laughed a little.
He failed to notice his dad's mood deescalate after the mention of his mother. But, after not hearing a response, he glanced over to see his father barely focusing on driving.
"Uh, dad?"
"You alright?" This seemed to snap his dad out of whatever trance he was in and blinked a few times before answering."I will be, once this divor-" His eyes widened, and shut his mouth realizing he said too much.
"Wait, divorce?" Hinata couldn't believe what he just heard. He knew his parents had been fighting more often, but the possibility of divorce never crossed his mind.
His dad pulled the car over.
"Text whoever runs morning practice your going to be late, I shouldn't say this while I'm driving." Hinata listens and texts the group chat that he'll be late and doesn't know what time he'll be there and turns to look at his dad.
"Your mother has reunited with her soulmate and has been cheating on me for the past few months." "I found out a couple of weeks ago when I went to surprise her at the office for our anniversary and found her screwing him on her desk." "Since then we've been filing for a divorce." "We were actually planning on telling you today that our court date got moved up to this weekend."
Hinata's eyes filled with tears as his father told him what was going on. He couldn't believe it was all happening so fast. He didn't want to believe it, but did he have a choice? Not at all.
His dad gave him an awkward hug across the armrest before putting the car back in drive.
"I'm sorry Shoyo, it wasn't my plan to have you find out this way, but I didn't want you to be curious about it all day." He rubbed his son's shoulder while keeping his eyes on the road.
Hinata had no words, he was just quietly crying in the backseat. A lot of things were going to change now. He would have to choose a parent to live with, although it was obvious which one he would choose, he was going to miss his mom. She may be the cause of all the pain, but he can't just flip a switch and hate the woman. That's not how he works, he tries to find the good and people and tries to understand them as well as he can.
They pulled up to the front gates after about a solid twenty minutes of silence, aside from the small sniffles coming from Hinata from time to time. He wiped his tears off and thanked his dad for the ride and grabbed his stuff from the backseat.
"If you want me to pick you up early, just call me and I'll be here." "Sneak your phone into the bathroom, doesn't matter." "I shouldn't have dumped all of that on you today, and I'm sorry."
"I'll be alright, I just need some time to process it all." Hinata gives him a weak wave and starts running to get to the club room. He rushed to put his practice clothes on and walked over to the gym door and paused before going in.
He made sure to wipe his face off once more and took a deep breath before opening the door.
The team stopped what they were doing once the gym doors opened. They saw Hinata swapping his outdoor shoes for his volleyball shoes. Surprisingly, he wasn't talking or anything. He didn't even seem to rush the process either. His gaze was kept towards the ground and he set his water bottle down.
He finally looked up towards the team. Everyone was looking at him weirdly like they were deeply concerned.
"Is everything alright Hinata?" Sugawara was the first to ask and walked over to him. Hinata nodded doing his best not to cry.
"I-I don't want to talk about it right now, sorry." At this point, even Tsukishima was slightly concerned. Hinata never talked this quietly, and usually, he was jumping for joy for Kageyama to set for him. But, this-this Hinata was a completely different person altogether.
Guess the sun doesn't always shine huh?
Authors note
The storyline will be extremely similar to my original version, but I hope this is better than the original first chapter ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).
