"isabella." her mother spoke harshly over the phone. "your sister's wedding is in two days. you must get home as soon as possible."
"yes mother." isabella groaned.
"don't use that tone with me isabella!" her mother raised her voice over the phone line.
"alright mother!" she sighed, giving up on fighting with her. "i'll call you when i get to new york."
isabella had been visiting her best friend kyla, who had moved to australia last year. it probably wasn't the smartest idea for a 5'2, 17 year old girl to be flying half way across the world on her own, but she enjoyed the risk. kyla and her family moved to a suburb of sydney last year, while they were sophomores. of course now it was summer vacation and isabella was entering senior year in the fall.
she checked in with the united airlines desk, and headed towards the security. if isabella hadn't overslept her alarm, she would be boarding the plane in a few minutes. but she always overslept.
"let me see your passport." the women at the front of the security stations stated, and she went to pull it out of my bag.
"one second ma'am." isabella sighed, beginning to rummage through my backpack to look for my passport. frantically, i opened my suitcase, clothing spilling out, to try to find it. "i can't find it." she looked up at the prude women, and zipped up her belongings.
"very well then." she bent down, and grabbed some paper work from the desk she was standing at. "fill out this form."
as quickly as she could she filled out the form that the lady had given her. the ink in the pen was running out but so was her time to catch the flight.
"here you go." isabella handed her the paper and capped the pen, as she began to look it over.
"you're holding up the line kid!" an older man shouted from the back.
"some of us have flights to catch!" an elderly woman called from closer by.
"this is all correct?" she asked. she nodded my head in approval. "well everything seems good to go, except for one small fact, you're a minor, aren't you miss lewis?"
"is there an issue?" she asked. her mother and sarah will kill me if she didn't catch her flight.
"i'm afraid that we can't send you home without parental permission, or your passport." the lady sighed. "and by the looks of it you have neither."
"let me call my mom." isabella pleaded. "please let me go home. i have to go to my sister's wedding."
she tried to push past the women with my things, and tried to run through security. "get her!" the lady called, and suddenly multiple guards came running after her. and because she's never really been in shape, they caught up to her.
"the sydney international airport has you under arrest." a larger man said, his accent thick.
"i need to get home." isabella begged. "i'll send the money."
"we need to take her into custody." the woman from before sighed. "she's a minor without a passport. and she tried to trespass our security checkpoint. just bring her to a room to be watched."
the security guards held isabella's hands behind her back, and grabbed her belongings and marched her to a room, past the people hustling and bustling through this thriving airport.
she was thrown into a room. "officer hood, this is isabella lewis. keep your eye on her. and isabella," he said motioning to me, "do as officer hood says."
with that the door was slammed shut, and isabella met a pair of familiar eyes.
