Jess stared into Lucy's eyes to look for any sign of doubt in her decision. She looked nervous. But she didn't look like she was regretting what she was saying completely. "...So...."
"That's all you can say?" She said sheepishly, "'So?' "
"I'm just trying to wrap my head around this." he told her before looking down, "...I can write this book?" he asked. Lucy gave him a small nod.
"But you haven't even read it." he said.
Lucy looked down. It was true, she hadn't read it yet. Perhaps because she was afraid of how exactly Jess had seen her story. How his point of view had sewn together her own story. Perhaps she was afraid of others reading the book, and out of some miracle, knowing it wasn't fiction.
But she had decided that Jess' happiness and success mattered more than an embarrassment she could receive. He had written a book out of liking her. There was nothing he could say that could hurt her, after what she's been through.
"No, I haven't read it." she spoke up gently, "But that shouldn't stop you from publishing your work. Jess you wrote something, you created a book." she held his hands, "You should be proud of that."
Jess sighed softly and bit his lip softly, "And you won't regret letting me do this?"
She bit her lip. That is to be seen, she thought.
Lucy nodded before letting go of his hands, "Now I expect you to be making some calls in California or something?" she chuckled; not sure the process of publishing a book.
Jess chuckled and looked down. "I know a guy who knows a guy." he shrugged. Lucy smiled and shook her head before nodding, "Okay. Then it's decided."
"You publish the book."
