"Marinette, honey! Hurry downstairs!" Sabine called out.
"I'm on my way, mama!" Marinette responds back with a quiet sigh.
Marinette Dupain-Cheng was getting a new addition to her family. Her mother, Sabine, had decided to remarry again to a certain Tom who, himself, has a daughter, Lila.
"I just don't get it. We're doing fine, I don't see any reason to destroy our family." The bluenette mutters to herself, tying the back of dress nicely and pulling her hair back to put on a small charm necklace.
With that, the young girl walks down the stairs to see her mother with a happy expression as she puts on a pair of studded earrings to finish her look.
"Come on, Marinette! Tom and Lila are waiting outside for us." Sabine remarks.
"I don't get it, Mama. I don't want a new dad." Marinette complains.
Sabine gives her a look of sympathy as she hugs her daughter.
"I know it's hard for you, but maybe a new father will do you good as well as a sister!" Sabine tries in an attempt to cheer her daughter up.
Noticing her mother's excitement, she tries to copy it to make her mother happy.
'She deserves it,' Marinette thought to herself, 'And if it makes her happy that's all I need.'
With a deep breath, she follows her mother to the door and welcomes in her new family.
"Ah Sabine!" Tom exclaims, hugging her.
"Hello Tom!" Sabine responds with a light giggle.
"And you must be Marinette! Your mother has told me lots about you! This is my daughter, Lila!" Tom remarks, motioning to Lila.
And almost instantly, Marinette hated her. For some unknown reason, she seemed to find a hatred to her. Maybe it was the way she carried herself, or the way she just looks that seemed to tick off the young bluenette.
"That's- great." Marinette forced out of herself.
"I'm quite excited for you two to live with--" Sabine pauses, frowning.
"Oh, Lila doesn't have a room yet, I have forgotten." Sabine sighed.
She looked to Marinette and an idea sparked in her head.
"Marinette! You can move to the attic room and Lila can take your room!" Sabine remarks.
"But- Mama! You-" Marinette began.
"Please, Marinette!" Sabine pleads.
"Fine." Marinette mutters.
"Let's go, shall we?" The bluenette murmurs, staring at Lila.
"Oh, yes! We shall!" Lila said with a light giggle.
With a roll of her eyes, Marinette leaded her new step-sister up the stairs to her old room which will be soon Lila's.
"This will be your new room," Marinette muttered.
The room sat on the second floor in the room on the left. There was a stairwell a bit down the hall which led to the third floor, the attic, Marinette's new room. The bluenette opened the door and allowed Lila into the room first. The room was a pastel pink with a white border around the walls. There was a canopy bed in the center and a pink, fluffy carpet lied underneath it. Two windows were on opposites side of the bed and was draped in white curtains, tied by pink rose ribbons. There was a long L-shaped desk on the side with multiple types of fabric and a box of sewing material. A mannequin stood near the corner with multiple shades of pink fabric pulled around into a simple dress base. A giant bookshelf sat opposite of the desk and on the fourth shelf, from the bottom to the top, was a wooden carving with the word 'Marinette' on it.
"I'll clean it out and move it upstairs soon, no worries." Marinette murmurs.
"No worries, Marinette! We can share for the time being!" Lila chirps.
The bluebell eyed girl just silently glares at her new crashing roommate.
"Fun.." She murmurs.
"You know, Mari, can I call you that? I feel like you don't like me." Lila says with an offended sigh as she sat down next to Marinette.
"I have no idea what you mean, I'm just thrilled to have a new part of the family." Marinette replied with a forced smile.
"If you don't like it, I can tell my papa to maybe call this off." Lila says quietly with a fake sense of innocence.
"No, no. It's completely fine. No worries here." Marinette mutters, getting off the bed and leaving the room.
"That's great, Mari. I hope we become the best of friends and the best of sisters!" Lila exclaims happily, staring at the annoyed girl.
"That's wonderful," Marinette deadpans, "Is there anything else you would need?"
"Oh nothing, go on, enjoy your day!" Lila says with a false cheeriness.
"Whatever." Marinette mumbles, leaving to go downstairs and meet her mother.
"Hello, Marinette! How's Lila?" Sabine asked, pouring some tea for both her and Tom.
"I feel like she's a fake." Marinette muttered.
"What was that?" Sabine questioned.
"She's great." The bluenette lied.
"That's great to hear! I heard Alya is needing some help with the baked goods, will you go help her?" Sabine asks.
"No problem." The blue-eyed girl responds, taking the basket off the counter and walking out the door with a quiet, annoyed huff.
"Whoa! What's up with you?" Alya jokes.
"I have a new step-sister." Marientte responds bluntly, beginning their trek around the village.
"Oh? Who did your mama marry?" Alya asks.
"Tom. And he sounds like a good person, but it's his daughter, Lila, I don't like." The bluenette responds.
"What about her do you not like?" Alya questions.
"I- I don't know, Alya. There's just something about her. Not sure if it's the way she walks or talks but something about her just ticks me off" Marinette huffed.
"Maybe you just want to be alone with your mama." Alya says softly.
"That's not it. I want her to be happy and I like Tom too. It's just Lila!" Marinette argues.
"Alright, alright. No need to yell Missy." Alya smirks.
"You just think you're so funny with this predicament." The blue-eyed girl bluntly responds.
"Well, if you feel like something is up, I bet you your mama will listen. You're her daughter for Christ's sake!" Alya remarks.
"Maybe.." Marinette hums.
The two girls worked together to finish delivering the last of the baked goods from the Dupain-Chang bakery and made their way home with laughter and jokes on the way back.
