Everything was quite boring as break began today. Christmas was just a week or two away at this point. I decided to stay at the school this Christmas, I didn't want to see the horrid people who I call my dear parents. Abraxas decided to stay as well, he didn't want to leave me here in my thoughts as most people were going home for the break. Tom surely wasn't though, he had absolutely no where to go other than that horrendous orphanage. What's an orphan teenager like him supposed to do during a holiday other than sit alone in his own thoughts? Quite sad honestly, but Tom wasn't about sadness. He was about power, just like the rest of us. My brother and I, Avery included.
As I fumbled my way out of my bed, I slipped my H/C locks into a messy bun on top of my head, and put a black oversized sweater over top of my white button up, with a pleated black skirt underneath. I then tucked the layers into the skirt. To spruce up the outfit, I put on an emerald necklace with a silver chain with matching earrings. I threw on a pair of mary jane-style heels and left my dormitory.
The common room was practically empty as most of those who decided to stay at the school were in the Great Hall already, eating breakfast. I waved to a third year student who was sitting by the fire, reading a potions book, and made my way out into the corridor.
I was in quite a good mood due to most of my peers being out of school, home with their families. They probably had it worse off than me, but better off than me in a totally different way. Their families probably cared about them a lot more, but obviously weren't as wealthy as my pureblood family. I'd take a caring family over a wealthy one any day if i'm being honest, though that'd knock the power I desire out of the park.
As I got lost in my thoughts, I accidentally ran into a student from Ravenclaw. I never talk to anyone outside of my house due to, you know, pride. That also might just be me being stuck up, I suppose.
I took a tumble, and so did her books. She reached her hand out as a gesture to help me up. I hesitantly took it. She has curly black hair and circular gold-framed glasses. Her eyes were crystal blue, and she had fairly pale skin with a couple freckles dotted upon her face. She wore a blue sweater with an ash colored skirt, multiple dainty gold rings were placed upon her fingers.
"Oh my Merlin, I'm so sorry, Y/N. I'm Olive, Olive Hornby, by the way." She said quickly as she scrambled to pick up her belongings. Olive was quite the character. She seemed to be afraid of me, I could just sense it. Not only by common sense, but slightly in her blue eyes.
"No worries, Olive. Well, I would introduce myself, but you seem to know who I am already." I replied nonchalantly. I wasn't extremely interested in the conversation, though to be fair, I'm usually not. All I knew about her was that she was the one who found Myrtle's lifeless body on the cold, lavatory floor.
"Who doesn't know you, you're a Malfoy for Merlinsake. I assume you are also headed to the Great Hall for breakfast, so would you mind walking with me?" She replied as she tidied up her books, which she was now holding in her arms.
I suddenly felt like being nice for once, so I agreed. It was quite the silent walk, small talk here and there, until she asked me quite a peculiar question.
"Hey Y/N, are you and Tom Riddle a couple? I'm sorry if this comes off as odd, but i'm quite the curious person and I was just wondering."
"No." I replied firmly, "Merely just friends, love." She nodded her head in response, we chatted a little more, then we parted ways once we finally reached the Great Hall. I spotted Tom and Abraxas sitting together, Avery was seated across from the two.
"Hello boys, how's your mornings going?" I said as I took a seat next to Tom.
"Great, really. No more dealing with most of our annoying peers. They're quite pathetic anyway." Tom replied sternly. His face remained unbothered per usual.
"I couldn't agree with you more." Avery replied, looking directly over at the Gryffindor table where a couple students sat.
"Well,, yeah, I suppose that's true." I said slightly awkwardly. They were so prejudiced, I swear.
The rest of breakfast I cracked a couple of lighthearted jokes just so they weren't so serious as they typically were. Tom slightly smiled here and there, so I was quite pleased with myself.
TIME SKIP — In the Slytherin Common Room
I sat on a couch in the common room, touching up on my D.A.D.A. knowledge, studying for the class, and that's when Tom approached me.
"Typically this wouldn't be my exact cup of tea, but would you like to go to Hogsmeade with me? Usually I'd enjoy staying in the common room all break, but I suppose my mind changed." He spoke. He still had a blank expression for the most part other than the soft grin he added after speaking.
"Sure thing, Tom. Let me go get bundled up, it's fairly cold outside." I replied. I hopped up from the couch, and went straight up to my dormitory to change. When I got in my room, I put a pair of tights underneath the skirt, and added a heavier jacket on top of my sweater, including a Slytherin scarf.
I stepped outside of my dormitory and Tom was waiting there, his hands placed in his dress pants pockets. He was wearing his typically outfit, which was always quite dressy. His prefect badge was placed right near his tie as usual. Mine was in the exact same spot at his. It seemed like he admired my outfit, possibly even my figure, which was quite noticeable because the skirt was form fitting, and my sweater was tucked in, for a short while before finally speaking up.
"Well, are you ready to leave, love?"
"Yes, let's go." I replied.
As we walked, I intertwined my fingers with his, which brought a bright pink color to my cheeks. You couldn't exactly tell if it was due to the weather or not though.
We finally arrived at Honeydukes, as we walked through the door, Ambrosius Flume's wife greeted us.
"Hello dearies, Merry early Christmas to you both!" She exclaimed.
"Thank you Mrs. Flume, same to you." I replied with a soft smile. Tom just nodded his head at her.
Once we finished browsing the shop, purchasing a few sweets here and there, we decided to head back to the castle.
Once we got back to the Slytherin common room, Tom placed a light kiss upon my cheek which made me cheeks instantly brighten like earlier.
"Goodnight, love. I shall see you in the morning." He said softly.
"Goodnight Tom." I replied, then made my way up to my dormitory.
I changed into comfy clothes, a Slytherin sweat with sweatpants, and stayed up all night looking at the night sky, studying, and day dreaming. Tom made me weak. He made me feel like the power I desired didn't matter any longer. I never wanted to admit it, but I truly was in love with him.
