The doves of peace
Carry the branches
Of the silver birch
In their beaksAnd in their talons,
They lift Atlantis' coins
White and patterned
With heaven's starsPale calcium and samara seeds
Scattered the winds and waves
Amity, born from the beak
And from their claws, contented joy.The silver birch doves carry a new kingdom
Germinating harmony in their bills
To sow the seeds of reconciliation
In the rock-hard ground of hate.Author's note: part three in the symbols series, this one is further out there! The seeds (samara) of silver birch and the inside of sand dollars ("Atlantis' coins") both look like doves! In the biblical flood story, an olive branch is carried by a dove. I imagine they should carry silver birch, a persistent tree that often begins the return of nature to an area affected by disaster. Symbol: sand dollars and silver birch as a symbol of peace.
