Chapter 7
Briella’s mom-
Taylor had flown in from somewhere in Alaska the night before the police came. They were looking for clues.
“Ms Koan, how does Briella get to school every day?” Mr. Slate, the detective assigned to our case questioned.
“She walks, the school is only seven blocks and she enjoys the exercise.” I answered.
“Does she walk alone?”
“Yes, this neighborhood is, usually, very safe.”
“On this map” Mr. Slate slid a map of our town across the coffee table to me “what is the route she usually takes to school?”
I took out a red sharpie and drew a line that marked the route Briella would have taken three days ago.
“I see.” The detective studied the route.
“Let’s go.”
He motioned for me to follow. Taylor and I headed into his car and drove slowly down the street Briella took that Monday.
Around the spot she was last seen, as fellow neighbors relayed to the police the afternoon of her kidnapping, we got out of the car and looked around.
All we say were some skid marks, nothing of importance.
Disappointed, we all went down to the police station for some coffee.
